C81 The Tape – Cassete Compilation

c81.jpgLots of crappy bands that where popular among the rotten critics in the UK like: Orange Juice, Josef K, Raincoats etc. BUT what the fuck? An awesome track by the Buzzcocks that I hadn’t heard before! I got in the early ’90s. Doing research I found that it’s included in some complete discography from 2004. As a bonus anus I’ve also posted the Subway Sect track which is great!

You are right about Orange Juice and The Raincoats, but you’re decision to not use a spell/grammar check is not.

With that said, keep up the good work.

  2. gk says:

Actually, Brian, he/she is wrong about OJ and Josef K. The spelling/grammar may be awry but YOUR decision to point this out is ill advised.

  3. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Ha ha well it’s not a decision that I’ve made. There’s no spell/grammar check built into the editor in WordPress. If anyone got some advice I’m all ears.

A little bit of a sloppy post because the C81 tape is now considered such a milestone in the post-punk canon. They certainly weren’t ‘crappy’ the bands you mentioned, though you’ve certainly picked two winners here. The origins of the ‘Parallel Lines’ track goes right back to the Subway Sect Peel session in 1977, which I’ve always cherished, because it shows how huge their potential really was. If only they got it together and released a single that year! For those that are interested, i’ve just posted a few tracks from the Streets LP (Beggars Banquet, ’77) here.

Ah sloppy post :D! Ha ha well since I’m not into the post punk thing I didn’t knew this was such a classic. But maybe it could be an interesting post for people like me who’ve discovered this very late.

Have you not heard the first two Raincoats LPs? Landmarks in punk/diy…

  7. Rich says:

That’s the great thing about this punk/post-punk era, always new stuff to discover. Check the demented Furious Pig track on that tape for instance! Keep it up, great work

  8. Rob says:

How on earth can you call the Raincoats crappy?

Thanks for the songs anyway. Though the Raincoats are brilliant.

  9. Pogel says:

Wow I never heard this Buzzcocks song before. Have you heard “Young Raw Sounds”? A compilation of Lightning record early “punk”. This has some good songs by bands like Fruit Eating Bears, Dirty Dog etc but also some lame stuff like Cane.

Wow – a calssic Buzzcocks song I hadn’t heard before – me so happy. The Subway Sect track is great too. The comp CD that was out a few years ago is out of print, so anything else you want to post by this band is a-ok by me :)

  11. The Flakes // Drummer says:

To those who gets upset when I call bands crap. It’s just an opinion and I prefer to be honest. When I think something is crap then I call it crap. If someone disagree then that’s totaly fine with me. Remember: it’s just music. No big deal.

  12. LIC, NY says:

Subway Sect? Their song “Ambition” is essential. Kinda. Weird boopy electronic thing going through it and not necessarily in time.

  13. AS says:

hey, brian, before you get uppity about other people’s spelling, just know the correct spelling is “YOUR decision” not “YOU’RE decision.” ya boofhead.
