Maggot Sandwich - Dead To My World E.P. 7″

Wednesday, May 10th, 2006

maggot_sandwich.jpgThis killer punk rock 7inch has one of the ugliest cover in my whole collection. Long time since I spinned it but knew I’ve always liked it. I put it on and in seconds I realise I had to record it and post all the tracks here. If this had been released in lets say 1982 it would’ve been talked about alot. A perfect combination of mid tempo snotty punk rock and hardcore. “Vik formed his own label, KML Records and released “Dead To My World” , a great 7″ in 1985. Five hundred copies were made in a single pressing. The band never re-pressed the record because they thought it was crap.”.

The Noise - Let’s Have Some Fun 7″

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

noise_front.jpgA fast(hey it’s from 1978) punk rock smasher with harmonica on the a-side and a cover of “Do The Climb” on the flip. How odd it mays sounds with the harmonica, and I’ve admited that I hate it, it actually works pretty good. I can imagen that they realised punk was the thing and they couldn’t kick the harmonica guy. Why do I assume that? Cause a real punk band should’ve realised that the a-side had to stop at 1:21. “Lets Have…” was included on Killed By Death Vol.19 and they where from Kansas(a great symphonic band by the way). Here’s a thing to look at. 200 pressed.

Widows - Wall Of Berlin E.P. 7″

Monday, May 8th, 2006

widows_berlin.jpg “Widows, Briard, Rock Boys ja Ductails olivat keskeisesti luomassa Kallion nuorisoaseman puutalosta Kill City Clubia.”  ehh?  Any finnish people around here?  A discography and some short band bio was found here. This is the second 7inch by the Widows. It took me many years before I actually got to hear them for the first time yet to know that they exicted. I think it was in the late ’90s actually. Too bad since this is great I’m really curios about their other stuff.  Anyone got their discography released by Poko some years ago? “For The Freedom” reminds me alot of the “Lookalikes” by the Drones.

Suicide Squad - I Hate School 7″

Monday, May 8th, 2006

suicide_squad.jpgA somewhat overlooked punk rock 7inch from down under. Both tracks are great with low budget production(read great) and a screaming girl behind the microphone. When listening to “I Hate School” there’s no doubt that they actually mean what they say. Here’s the story behind it:”I think Mark wrote it and wanted to write about something kids hated so he asked his or Con’s sister what she hated - “I hate school” she said.” Read some more!

Knugen Faller - Skellefte Stadshotell E.P. 7″

Sunday, May 7th, 2006

knugen_skellefte.jpgHere’s the first 7inch from “Knugen Faller” since “English Paul” so eagerly wanted to hear it. The nod to older swedish punk is most hearable in the title track. It’s great no doubt about it but the chorus is maybe an ode to “Dagens Ungdom”? I’m really fond of Syliva Sates voice. Clear yet agressive. “Knugen Faller” also happens to have some great lyrics so it’s time to learn swedish.

Tot Rocket And The Twins - Reduced 7″

Saturday, May 6th, 2006

totrocket_reduced.jpg“Tot Rocket was formed in 1979 when Ron Spitzer, Andrew Halbreich and Robert Poss, who had played in various blues / rock bands together in high school, ended up moving to East Haven, Connecticut to form a new band.” taken from this page. The blues /rock roots shine through in the extremly bad “Fun Fades Fast In the USA” and should be called “Fun Fades Fast When Spinning This Song” which is slow and even have an harmonica. I always hated harmonica in any musical genre, except Black Metal. The Tot Rockets first 7inch with the amazing “Reduced”. Italys Rave Up have released a discography. Check it out!

Spelling Mistakes - Hate Me… E.P. 7″

Saturday, May 6th, 2006

spellingmistakes_hateme.jpgA boot that I bought some years ago and I’ve forgotten all the info about it. Recorded in 1979 here’s a rawer version of “Hate Me, Hate Me”,and better, then the version on the “Feel So Good” 7inch. The B-Side is so so but “Stingy” is decent. A two CD compilation where released in 2002 I think. Found this: “The Spelling Mistakes managed to get themselves banned from just about every venue in NZ.” so you know they where punk.

Knugen Faller - Inte Som Ni E.P. 7″

Saturday, May 6th, 2006

knugen_intesomni.jpgWhat strikes me when I rip Swedens finest “Knugen Faller” is that the bass line is the same as one of Raped Teenagers(our old band) old songs “Jag Vill Inte”. But this is of course much better. I was kind of euforic when I first heard “Knugen Faller” thinking “wow at last someone gets IT again”. This is their second 7inch and has members from some more well known swedish bands. No I won’t tell you who they are. In my opinion this is one of the best swedish punk rock 7inches ever made.
