The Wasps - Teenage Treats 7″

The title gave name to a famous series of compilations. And what a song it is! The b-side is great as well. The only complaint I have is that Jesse Lynn-Dean try to imitate those typical Rotten “r”s. But he gets away with it and especially after reading this: from 3RD Generations interview with Jesse in 2004:”Being over the teenage age, how do you view teenagers now? I don’t feel any different now as I did then. I think being a teenager is a licence to express yourself any way you feel and if you piss a lot of people off you are probably on the right track.“.
Head over to The Wasps page over at Punk 77.co.uk to get some snipets of their story. And DON’T miss the link to the press clips with Jesses war aginst the journalists review of the Vortex live LP. Anyone heard the “Punkcryonics” CD?

The Wasps “Punkryonics” CD is pretty good, “Teenage Treats” sounds like it may have been mastered from vinyl, whilst “Rubber Cars” is a rougher version than the single (I actually prefer the more polished 7″). The sound quality varies elsewhere, a lot of tape hiss on one or two tracks. The best song apart from “Teenage Treats” is “Run Run Angelica” which was later covered by The Favourites.

Yeah the CD is kinda patchy but it has it’s moments. “Run Run Angelica” & “JJJJenny” are great but nothing can top the awesomeness of “Teenage Treats”.

They lyric that goes “put me down for some this” says it all! One of the truly greatest punkpoppers. Anyone ever heard Jesse Lynn Dean’s solo single “Do It”?

THE WASPS CD IS GREAT, WITH THE RUBBER CARS (RAW EDIT)VERSION MUCH MUCH BETTER. THE FAVOURITES SONG WAS ANGELICA (MINUS THE RUN RUN PART) I CONTACTED Jesse Lynn-Dean TO ASK HIM ABOUT THE CONNECTION, THE FAVOURITES WERE ON THE SAME LABEL.
