Starjets – 10 Years 7″

Monday, July 17th, 2006

starjets_10years_cover.jpgIrealands the Starjets is nothing short then amazing. Most of the time. Their LP is half great and half bad and their three first 7inches ain’t worth much but their releases of four solid 7inhces in a row: Ten Years, War Stories, Schooldays, Shiraleo is worth a nobel prize in the category of great punk rock/powerpop. “The STARJETS were originally formed in Belfast in the summer of 1976 by vocalist/guitarist Terry Sharpe, bassist Sean Martin, vocalist/guitarist Paul Bowen and drummer Liam L’Estrange.“.

Here’s the 10 Years 7inch released and sold at tour. Two killer tracks suitable for hot days on the beach.

Lockjaw – Radio Call Sign 7″

Monday, July 17th, 2006

lockjaw.jpgGreat one sided punk rock 7inch from the RAW label. You’re telling me there’s another track on this? Ok it is. But why?? A cover that totaly blows and should be erased from punk history. Here’s the first step in doing so. Lockjaw released one more 7inch called Journalist Jive that is a pretty tuff one to get hold of. “Band featured Simon Gallup, later to go on and join The Cure.

The Nosebleeds – Ain’t Been To No Music School 7″

Monday, July 17th, 2006

nosebleeds.jpgThis is a classic! Enough said. Over to Punk77.co.uk: “Ok so why all the fuss over a band that released one single. Simple. Like the Killjoys and Users there’s more to the story than just a song. Edmund Garrity AKA Ed Banger’s story criss crosses through vital moments in punk that makes it impossible to ignore and at times so improbable that a film script could or should be made.”. Morrisey who later found fame as a solo artist and in The Smiths sang for Nosebleeds after Ed banger left. Morrisey should’ve stuck to punk rock.

Disguise – Hey Baby 7″

Monday, July 17th, 2006

disguise_juvenile_cover.jpgOne great powepop track on the a-side and one great punk rock blast on the flip. What more could you ask for? Maybe a sleeve that actually represents the greatness of this release. I first heard this at the Anntenna Radio Show called Gift Wrapped Crap hosted by Scott Bass. Ah those where the days. It was one of the best internet radio stations there was. Too bad they had to close down.

The only thing I’ve found about the Disguise is a small note about them from an old issue of Smash Hits magazine: “DISGUISE seemed to have a bright future ahead of them when they signed for Chiswick Records in late ‘77, but the label’s lack of interest after they had taken on the band left them disillusioned. They had to wait over a year for their single to be released, and even when it was, “Hey Baby” didn’t have any effect on the record buying public, which is a shame. Disguise recently split up. (Their drummer is now with the Cassetes.)”
