Special Forces – World Domination LP 12″

specialforces.jpgHere’s one of the most underrated HC records ever. Up there with classics like Zero Boys – Vicious Circle, FU’s -Kill For Christ/My America, Jerry’s Kids – Is This My World, Scream – Still Screaming yeah you get the picture. This is some of the finest and most “typical” US HC you’ll ever hear. The guitar sound is THE sound of US HC. The cover has to be one of the ugliest ever made maybe that’s why it’s been forgotten. And yes it’s released in 1984. One year after the big HC boom. Their later stuff is awful though!

Bill Colins the guitarist is now a folk music artist. Check out the liner notes and the lyrics here. Listen to Gung Ho now and realise what you’ve missed. From Berkeley, California.

  3. The Flakes // Drummer says:

  7. Mikhail says:

Killer hardcore. Their second LP is just as good. Orlando (vox) sang for a few bands since Special Forces, but isnt in any bands currently. Bill Collins moved to the East Coast (after spending time in MDC and Fang) and now plays a damn good acoustic set of Irish songs. And he was also in Baltimore Footstompers. X-Pist, I think?

  8. Jeff T says:

Bill Collins lives in New Haven, CT and currently plays in the Swaggerts as well as does his acoustic Irish sets and writes Union songs. He is also the area’s best guitar instructor to tons of students of all ages. Back in his Berekely days, he actually taught a few of the now Rancid kids how to play…

I have been friends with him for about 5 years now and he is an incredible guy and song writer!!

Thanks for posting this LP, all of the Special Forces stuff is great!

  9. Schralpsie says:

In the late 80’s, Gilman St. would put Special
Forces on bills, but they would never actually play.
Ox was working there at the time so I suppose he had something to do with it. I must have gone to 6 or 7 shows with them on the bill, and never got to see
    ’em.

  10. Mike Rush aka Niteowl says:

  28. Schralpsie says:

Thanks for all the homo-erotic feedback NiteOwl.
Sucking “balls” and “pissing” on my “ass”? Dood, leave me out of your gay fantasies. Fucking douchebag.

I don’t mean to be beating a dead horse here……BUT THAT WAS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER READ! HOLY SHIT! WHO COMES UP WITH THIS STUFF!?!?!?!

but more importantly: The Special Forces lp is one of the best records of all time (the artwork puts it over the top!) thanks for the mp3s….that will replace my taped copy until I track an original down.

  39. killer k says:

hey all, this is some pretty funny shxt. you want to know anything about this band, just ask me. BC and I started this band. After i brought in the drummer Steve, and we played like a million shows, we got sacked because we were ‘too flakey’ as collins put it. i think the real reason is that we refused to shave our heads and be little berkeley hc clones. Mostly, he just used us to borrow money from my girlfirend so he could do this record. Anyway, i still see ox around, he’s ok, but collins can kiss my azz.

  40. ThePsyko says:

Schralpsie – we played at Gilman street several times that I can remember (I played bass with Special Forces from 87-89).. I think that was after OX left there though? But I really do sort of remember playing there lol

  41. Bob says:

Hmm…lite melodic music from the ’80s. Nice. The kind of music to listen to while studying.

  42. Colin says:

This LP is really great,Does anyone have the 2nd one?I would be happy to trade some mp3s for it,Whatever.Anyone willing can hit me up at [email protected] .Thanks!

  43. Bill Collins says:

    Hey Kirby or Killer K,

I guess you do know some stuff about this band, seeing as you were one of the first four members, along with Eric-drums, me, Bill-guitar and Orlando-vocals. Unfortunately, I must point out the inaccuracies of some of your statements. Firstly, we didn’t play “like a million shows” together, it was a grand total of twenty six 10/22/83 -10/23/84. You “brought in the drummer Steve” after the first 3 or 4 shows when we fired Eric for not being able to keep up, which was, ultimately, the same reason you guys “got sacked”. The two of you were satisfied to stay where you were as far as style and musical ability and the band was ready to up its game.
As far as your idea that I wanted to replace you with “little berkeley hc clones” look at who we did replace you with: Tom Flynn, Fang’s original guitar player who if anything dressed like Joe Normal with a haircut to match (no shaved head), and Anna Chapman, from Deadly Reign, who would probably resent the hc clone description (once again, no shaved head)! We didn’t enlist them for their looks, it was their musical abilities and drive that got them the job!
As far as mostly using you to borrow money from your girlfriend so I could do this record, we were all scrambling around to get money to put out our record (oh yeah, that’s right, you “just wanted to put out a single”) . If Kate helped to finance the record, that was appreciated by all of us, not just me, and by the way, she wasn’t just “your girlfriend” she was my friend too – actually before you ever met her!
So, in conclusion, it just sounds like sour grapes – nobody likes getting kicked out of a band. I am truly sorry that I wasn’t very good at doing the deed but I’d never personally “sacked” anyone before (Ox fired Eric) and I just did what I felt needed doing in order to make the music as good as possible.
If I’m guilty of anything it’s having bad social skills, not being the evil schemer you make me out to be. Oh yeah, deshea, it’s spelled “kiss my ass”!

  44. killer k says:

Bands are a funny dynamic-some people get together to make music, and its all fun, you get better, start playing shows, people come and go, then one guy starts to think of the project as HIS band, starts telling everyone what to play and how to act, the bands stops being fun, and in the end it falls apart. Sounds familiar doesnt it? Happens over and over in the music world.
Its odd how a band that wanted to ‘up its game’ went from being ‘really great’ to ”their later stuff is awful..”. Guess the plan didnt work out that well did it? Yes, no one likes getting stabbed in the back, espicailly when being accused of ‘being flakey’ (the exact wording by the way). It’s so much more honest to just say ‘I dont like you you guys and you’re out of the band’ At least OX had the stones to come by with some beer and shoot the shit. And as far as ‘being satisfied to stay where you were..blah blah..”, that’s funny too since Collins/Ox were writing all the later songs and telling us what to play on it. Maybe we didnt play ‘a milliion shows’, but it sure seemed like it, spending an hour w/ Collins is like an eternity in hell..But hey its all good..after SPF music became fun again. Steve and Kate and I had a blast in Miserable Sex, i suggest anyone that wants to see what the scene was like in SF around the years ’85-’89 check out the book called ‘Chatterbox:A History of a Bar’ available from Last Gasp. Alfie did a great chronicle of what was happening at the time. I went on to play w/The Feederz for several years (and was there at
the famous ‘Speckles’ show @ Gilman) and Steve went on to play for years w/Vomit Launch (credited with nearly inventing the ‘indie pop’ scene),and the wildly popular county-punk bad The AAsskickers, over many albums and tours.

  45. killer k says:

Here’ sone more tip for all you wanna-be guitarists..when you go to a recording session, make sure to BRING YOUR GUITAR!!! And dont try to blame the rest of the band for you not bringing it.
    HAHAHHAHA

  46. Will Purcell says:

    Hello Out there,

My favorite punk band of all time !!!

  49. Jonny says:

Sorry to say Anna Chapman died in car crash in L.A.last October

    • bill collins says:

hi, Bill from Special Forces here…Is this true about Anna dying? Wow…
      Please, I hope you’re joking.

      • Harold says:

I got a Facebook message from Anna on Dec. 9, 2009, so if she died in a car accident it must have been later than this.

I sure hope she’s alive and well though.
