Suburban Studs – No Faith 7″

suburbanstuds_nofaith.jpgNo this isn’t the first withdrawn copy that had the Neon Hearts Steve Harrington on sax. This is the second press but great as well. Aren’t the Suburban Studs somewhat underrated?

In their time they released 2 singles and even an album within a year, a feat not reached by many a punk band of the time. Originally featuring the sax antics of Steve Heart the instrument was felt to be inappropriate to their sound and he left to join the Neon Hearts.

I can’t help it – but without the sax, it’s kinda cheesy, cockrockish and generic. Nowhere near (even with the sax) the best ever UK punk 7″ from the NEON HEARTS.

  2. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Yepp the Venus Eccentric is coming up so hold on :).

  3. Erich says:

Great! You really get me in the mood of updating my blog too …… If you need, I have quality mp3 (240, vbr) mp3 of NH 7″ and scans etc. from my old site available ….

  4. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Erich, thanks alot but I’m a bastard and want to do it all by myself. I love to put the records on and record them, clean ’em up, scan the sleeves etc. Labour of love you may call it.

But what makes me most happy is that you get inspired to update your own blog!! That’s the main purpose for me here. To get people inspired. May it be to start their own blogs or bands or whatever. You know the good old punk spirit.

  5. Erich says:

That’s exactly the response I anticipated from you! I might put up some italian HC tonight – you really got me in the mood now.

  6. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Go ahead Erich!!! And let us know when it’s up!

  7. Erich says:

May I announce that after massive technical problems I did indeed update that little blog of mine (just click on my name here in this posting)? Just wanted to put up NEON HEARTS when I recalled that you wanted to have it featured here. Are you still going for it?

  8. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Listen to KFC righ now!! Great great stuff!! Link coming up. And yes the Neon Hearts is coming up but I don’t own the right to be the first to post it so… ;).

  9. Erich says:

Well, neither do I own the rights :-) Nah, since you wanted to post NEON HEARTS, I’ll leave that up to you and maybe just do my own little post later. Let me know if you feel like I should post the other KFC track too – you see, I feel a bit strange about posting entire records (read “Fuck the kids” in my blog).

  10. The Flakes // Drummer says:

I totally understand your point of view Erich about that subject. I read it the other day and I agree! I’ve decied to post tracks that I like. I have friends that have their PCs full of stuff that they never going to listen to anyway. They’re just obessesed of downloading stuff. Retarded!

And tracks that I dosen’t post I don’t even rip for myself. I delete tracks from LP, 7inches and CDs that I think sucks. Why would I want to have all the tracks just for the sake of having it? Stupid!

So go ahead and do what you feel is right.

  11. Erich says:

I will put it up in a second. Ha!

Di you get my email I sent thru the “contact” form? Really sorry to make this my own little private hat here – it’s only due to not knowing how to communicate with you other than that.

  12. The Flakes // Drummer says:

I’ve gotten the email and I’ve just answered it :). I’m sure people love to read our little chat here.

  13. steve says:

You two have to stop meeting like this, or people will begin to talk.

  14. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Shhh don’t tell anyone Steve. I used to have a crush on Rob Noxious and NiteOwl(Adam [email protected] aka septicnecro at eBay) but now I’m going for Erich. I just need a little little attention and then BOOOOM I’m head over heels.

  15. Erich says:

:-) Mama, we’re all creeezeee now.
Did I ever tell you how I once met Rob Noxious (ca. 1996), brought him to my home and how he tried to make me sell records like DICKS “hate the police” or HOLLYWOOD SQUARES “hillside strangler” etc. etc. for a couple of dollars each?

  16. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Ha ha GREAT another story to add to mine!! Did you know he ripped me off for about $1000.00? He was at my home last summer. Search for lewdsnot on here and read a little something about it.

He’s a psycho bitch and I’m putting him out of business. I’ve tried to make him to pay me back but he refuses. He’s going to pay.

  17. Erich says:

Here one more for you. I never was very proud of this until now, hahaha:

After HOURS of talking to that guy (who was actually a bit dumb), I bought a copy of MAJOR CONFLICT’s 7″ from him for 20$ instead. I guess he was just giving in on my heavy insisting. Or maybe he thought it would give him credits, cause soon after he asked me if he could stay at my place over night. It was a very hot and humid day and I remember so well how he stood there, soaked in sweat and carrying massive (!) bags full of records around with him – it must have weighed a ton.
Well, I wasn’t raised to be a man of manners. So I just told him that he can’t stay because I feard he would steal my records. I walked him to the train station and he didn’t even say goodbye. A friend of mine who at the time shared the flat with me suggested, we could grab our antifascist-sticks and just beat him down and snatch the bags. Well, it turned out that at least that rude I was not.

  18. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Carrying massive bags! That’s the guy. I’ll soon put a picture up of him.

Serioulsy, you would’ve done lot’s of people a favour if you’ve knocked him down and stolen his records.

My story is a long and complicated one. Short story: he was here. he left. I found out I’ve gotten ripped off. Tricked him back. Dumped him in the suburbs and went through his lugage. Found out all my assumptions was right. He called the police. He got his records back that I was supposed to somehow bring back to the right owners. I had all the peoples adress he’ve been in contact with last summer. He used 5 diffrent email adress from my computer. Logged in as “lewdsnot” and “zoloft_anaconda” from my PC. Etc etc…

  19. Erich says:

How did he manage to rp you off? I know so many people that got ripped off by him, but I must say that I’ve done lots of trading with him since the late 80s (until that incident in 96), but he never ripped me off. Sometimes, his grading policies would have been a bit, hmm, doubtful, but apart from that, no complaints at least from my side.

The worst I ever experienced was a mailorder from southern Italy that had sent me a list full of rare records at incredible prices, all off-the-shelves as it said and numerous copies available each. Well, I sent half of the money for like 20 copies of RAW POWER you are the victim” etc. etc. first, all I had saved for the rainy days, and well, guess what.
Then there was this guy from a swedish HC band who slept in my place. After he had had left, I realised that he had stolen a few not so rare records. The material damage wasn’t that bad, but I let him stay at my place, fed him, smoked some weed with him and that was his thank you for all this. What a fuckhead.

  20. The Flakes // Drummer says:

To me Rob at first seemed like a trustfull person and knew loads more then me about obscure records. I\’m not the suspicious type so when he told me that \”this record have never been released with sleeve. Yeah it\’s super rare one.\” I had no reason not to trust him. When he left I did a search on Google and found out that there where LOT\’S of stuff that he\’ve been lying about. And when finding all the diffrent email adress and the loggin to eBay using those notorious IDs. I did a search on lewdsnot and found Henry Yus article in MRR about Rob Noxious and then I realised I just had to stop this fucker.

What swedish HC band was it? Name of the guy? give it to me!

  21. Erich says:

We should arrange a meeting with him undercover, hahaha. I would take the photos and you drum the whole RAPED TEENAGERS EP on his head!

PS: Peter – I can’t remember the RT lp, but since I sold it long ago, I maybe didn’t like it that much at the time. Is it possible to still get a copy somewhere?

PSII: He was in one of them DIS-bands, haha. He seemed very young (even younger than me) 10 years ago and was a very shy person. It maybe was the first time for him to enter a squat full of political attentaters that had DECLINO turned up to max while having dinner. This maybe traumatized him so much that I think we should give his soul rest.

  22. steve says:

    Can I be bridesmaid?

  23. Erich says:

I’d love to see you in a more intimate role actually. Dunno about P., but I think he’s very open minded too.

  24. T. Depression says:

Rob Noxious is an utter twat. The due calls me up a few years back, saying he’ll be in town, and that he’s looking for some records, etc. He seems OK, so I tell him to drop by when he gets to town.He shows up, and I talk to him abit about records an’ shit, ask him if he knows/buys stuff of some guys I know in Western Canada…he says no. He strikes me as kinda sketchy, and starts pressing me about western Canadaian punk stuff he “needs”. I lie to him, and tell him that all my “for sale” records are with a friend. He tells me he’ll be back in town in a week, and we agree that he’ll come buy and we’ll do a couple small trades. Anyway, I go outa town to visit my parents for a weekend…stop buy and visit a friend who runs a record store. He tells me Rob was in town a few days earlier and bought a bunch of stuff (some of thethe same stuff he was looking for from me)..I talk to another friend who says he ripped him off a couple days earlier (shoving 7″‘s in LP’s he was buying while my friend had his back turned, etc). I’d asked Rob if he’d been to visit both these guys, and he had said no.

Anyway, Rob shows up at my apartment a week later (as agreed) with two big bags of records. I didn’t want anything to do with this guy, so I didn’t answer the door when he knocked. He could hear my TV, so he knocked more…and more…and more. He sat out in the hallway for two hours, with his big fucking bags of records…occasionally knocking, and peering under the door. What a twat…I don’t trade records with people who lie to me and rip off my friends.

  25. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Thanks for the story :). Another one to add to the record.

  26. E. says:

Hahaha – what a story. Can’t elieve this guy is still doing that kind of shit after so many years. How many hours has he spent in front of unanswered doors? when will somebody pull out a gun in a store and play swiss cheese back with him?

  27. Nice to see some of my local punk obscurities making this page. Suburban Studs from Birmingham were great live this 45 along with bands like the Models and of course Neon Hearts were what was good about the local scene forget the Killjoys Suburban Studs really done the business live.

  28. Peadar P. says:

Yes, it is surely underrated!!! Indeed, their singles and album are, in my opinion, a true gem of punk rock. I can’t listen to them too much and believe they have the straightforward and sharp approach tjat captures the 77 spirit. And they were good musicians also… Can’t agree anymore with the mantainer that the Studs are criminally underrated!
