Shows with the Sweep, Johnny Thunders and other godfathers toughened the music even more. VKTMS also became the ritual sacrificial offering for many touring acts (Stranglers, Roky Erikson, 999, Killing Joke, Wall of Voodoo, Bush Tetras, Fear, Psychedelic Furs, Delta 5, and many others) when they is on drugs through town.”

Saw this act at one of the many Vex clubs, visiting LA from SF, in the middle of the bill, of: 100 Flowers (opener, just changed their name from the Urinals, and still sounded like the Urinals), then the VKTMS (that gal was pissed that there was nobody there, on a Tuesday night in East LA, I remember the day of the week!), then The Angry Somoans with Jeff Dahl singing instead of Metal Mike. Musta been ‘80 or ‘81. Great show!

A friend of a friend of a friend… rumours… DKs and DOA playing with a nazi band? sounds a bit unbelievable, doesn’t it? Gimarc (Punk diary 1980-82) mentions precisely this single with its lyric as causing some racist accusations against the band. Same happened with Black Flag’s White minority, SLF’s White noise etc etc, no wonder…
The single’s great, by the way.

Eddie was the master of lyrics. Never before or after him has anyone put so much work in to do lyrics about nothing intelegent. GG did try but I think eddie beat him with the huge gallery of songs. If you do a search for eddie meduza on youtube you’ll find a video of my neighbour dancing halfnaked.

Let me set this straight. The VKTMS were never / are not NAZIs!!!
Guitarist John Binkov is a good jewish boy, I know as my roomate and I formed Daflspitz Records in the 90′d to put out there stuff.
For the record I am also a jew and my father escaped Hamburg in 1935.
Do the math; two nice Jewish boys.
Tim and the MRR types are plain crazy and if you buy their stalinist tactics then you get what you deserve.

Ya’ll might want to also know that VKTMS were put together a common friend, Mohammed Obead, who just happened to be Palestinian. Steve the bass player is Puerto Rican/Philipino. Many the band’s friends and supporters were GLBT. The list goes on…
Also, we (John VKTM speaking here) had strong roots in African American music, most especially blues, funk, and jazz.
Last, to quote a friend of ours, “Nazi Punks Fuck Off”.

first of all, being black, jewish, mexican, etc. doesn’t exclude one from being racist. there are many ethnic minorities that are socialized to be racist. regardless, 100% white girl is a great punk song, but the message, along with that of “white minority” (black flag) is irresponsible to say the least. its subject is up for interpretation, and its message is heavy on the “poor me, blue-eyed, blond -haired white girl”, which, to me, is evidence of a poor understanding of (and sensitivity to) the history of just exactly WHO is being oppressed here.
anyways, this song wasn’t meant to be anything more than one girls’ account of her experience, and apparently her experience is being oppressed by ethnic minorities, perhaps merely for being white. that experience sucks, and might compel anyone to write a song like this. its not nazi, its not racist, its just a simple, catchy punk song with irresponsible lyrics. the same can be said of “guilty of being white”. the intention got (or can be) misconstrued, but it is not racist.

Thank G-D we have good folks like Sarina and MRR to tell us who is and isn’t racist.
