The Flakes - Straight Jacket E.P. 7″
August 25th, 2006 at 4:41 am
This is the band I’m in so I let other people speak for us.
Todd from Razorcake:”…It’s something I imagine Rodney Bigenheimer losing his shit over in the early ’80s that would stand the test of time today. I’d place this right at peak top of this hard-to-conquer-genre.”.
The list of great reviews could go on and on but I stop here. 500 copies on clear vinyl and hand numbered lyric sheet.

Hell yeah!!! This rules! Awesome shit!

Really impressive! Believe it or not, but the riff of the first song “She’s so natural”, could be from the brandnew (released today) IRON MAIDEN album (which is awesome, btw).

Don’t like it far too wimpy needs more bollocks! The band sound like they can play very well and the singer has a good voice all the same. Hope I don’t offend anyone here!

Fantastic! Where can I get my hands on a copy? The Flakes website doesn’t seem to want to open. “She’s So Natural” is the best song I’ve heard for … well since the last best one I heard. Love it!

i think its good. when are you playing la?
August 29th, 2006 at 10:26 am
Love to play LA! If “NiteOwl”,”Adam Wilson”,”septicnecro”,”inkntunes” real name Mike Rush would set up a tour we would come. Yepp there’s the US The Flakes though we took our name before them. There where also a US powerpop band in 1982 named The Flakes. We need a nice label. Get in touch: info@kbdrecords.com

I love this record, and gave it a good review in Punk Planet a couple years ago.

Hi Jay! I still haven’t read that review. Is it possible to send a scan? I’m also curious if you reviewed the second “Can’t Stand…”.

I’m fairly new to the site hence the time gap but I have to say that this is awesome and you guys would have been on top of the pops in 1979.

Great record lads. Reminds me a bit of Elvis Costello at his sneering best.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:13 pm
She’s so natural sounds like Elvis Costello and the Attractions…I haven’t listened to the rest yet.
September 17th, 2007 at 3:16 pm

Just tried to sing “she’s so natural” under the shower - it worked! What sets this apart from crap like “Rich White Males” is that even if it tries to sound like 79, it doesn’t. I was right - it’s Iron Maiden riffing with a little overdone vocal-harmonizing. The singer’s the weak point here - I had assumed that before, but since singing my own version under the shower, I’m 100% sure now. He shouldn’t try so hard to sing clean cause he obviously ain’t got no voice for that (just like me). A bite more raunchyness would help.
You’re welcome.

I’m going to Minneapolis next week but the band won’t follow.

Minneapolis??? What, are Husker Du getting back together? Have fun. Hope someday your band makes it here…should be fun.
