The Heat - Instant Love 7″

Prejudice as I am I think it’s not that common to have two blacks in a powerpop band? As the thing with Bad Brains, four blacks playing manic punk. The Heat where from New York and besides this released an LP on MCA. Instant Love is as pure and as wimpy as only really good powerpop can be. Fuck Punk Rock and its hate and violence slogans we need some love man! Instant love!

They really had a good UK go with this one - sent promos to all manner of no-hoper regional radio stations. Didn’t work. Their image wasn’t conventional enough, and they had too much of a whiff of ‘industry’ about them. Pity, cos it’s a good record - thanks for the post!

Yeah, and of course, that ‘whiff of industry’ might have come courtesy front-man Tally Taliaferrow being a member of music-industry-casualties and unrecorded New York rock legends, the Planets. Oh, and I guess he was black too - you’re right.
