Plummet Airline - It’s Hard 7″

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

plummetairline_itshard.jpgJames at Worthless Trash have introduced me to lots of great UK acts I’ve never heard before. Plummet Airline is just one of the many from his latest podcast(no. 3).

This is their second release and It’s Hard is an incredible catchy punk/powerpop gem that deserves alot more attention.

From Worthless Trash: “…included two future members of the band The Favourites (”SOS” etc) in Darryl Hunt and Duncan Kerr. In 1976 they’d headlined above the Sex Pistols at the 100 Club and released a single on Stiff Records while known as Plummet Airlines (with an ‘S’).“. Darryl Hunt was also a member of The Pogues. The b-side is easily forgotten.

Henry Fiat’s Open Sore - I Was A Teenage Pretty Boy E.P. 7″

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

henryfiat_teenageprettyboy.jpgThese are some old boys from Sweden that blows most of the younger boys away. This is their 10th 7inch. How can a band manage to keep up the quality on their 10th 7inch? Beats me but they do. Perfect blend of Hardcore and Punk Rock.

HFOS is always disguised but from what I know the drummer plays powerpop last friday every month at some cheezy bar in Stockholm. I have to find him and reveal their identities. Second press still available from Ken Rock and Wasted Sounds.

Check the boys out.

Boys Club - This Is My Face E.P. 7″

Monday, August 21st, 2006

boysclub_thisismyface.jpgFirst band out here that sent us some 7inches. The wonderful Boys Club. Reminds of some old lost recording of one of those old Aussie bands The Victims or News. Sloppy played done the right way that adds that special touch. The touch of we don’t give a fuck! I absolutly love this record and so will you. A classic to come. If I have to pick one song it has to be the title track though every song rules.

EDITED on the 1st of September cause Steve of Boys Club wrote this to me:“One thing though, since the record is almost sold out, can you please remove the buying info from the post? We keep getting orders from people who see it on your site that send the money without checking our myspace first…”

Check out the Boys Club.

Pointed Sticks - Lies

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

Tonight it’s time for the TV Eye // Drummer and me to share the stage. Haven’t seen his band TV Eye in a long time so it’s going to be great. In the meantime enjoy this until some new stuff is coming up.

The Tranques - Heavy Whispers 7″

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

tranques.jpgThis is Willful Neglect(two classic HC MLPs) gone more metal. The a-side is awful bad Heavy Metal but the b-side Bleed’in Eyes is a good punky song that manage not be too much of wanky metal. The only one person missing from the original Willful Neglect line-up is the vocalist Wade Calhoon.

Savage Circle - S/T E.P. 7″

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

savagecircle.jpgOne of those old HC bands that insisted to have yet another song about Hardcore: Hardcore Rules. Ha ha even back then it made me laugh. It was so incredible silly. Just like Exploited and their likes shouting Punks Not Dead. That is humour! Great but somewhat generic 5 tracker with short songs that deserves a couple of spins. From Bronx,NY, USA. And don’t forgett that Hardcore Rules!

The X-Certs - Queen And Country 7″

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

xcerts_queen.jpgFrom Bristol, UK. For some reason these guys sounds very irish to me. Maybe cause of their incredible talent for melodys. Queen And Country is as good as it gets if you like punkypowerpop with a smart arrangement and a hook that will be stuck in your head forever:Uncle Sam Needs You! He wants your eyes to see him through. Brilliant track.

Visions Of Fate is good but a quiet ordinary melodic punk tune. These tracks are from the Bristol compilation “Avon Calling” released in 1979 and then re-issued by Japans 1977 Records.

Simon Tedd & The Adventures - Let’s Talk 7″

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

simontedd.jpgHow I love those totally mystery bands. A 7inch without a sleeve and one killer powerpop tune. I’m pretty sure this is one of many great songs I’ve heard during the years visiting Steves LDK Boot series.

I’ve found a Simon Tedd playing in a band called Big Bam Boo down in Nashville but is that the same guy? Produced by Wolfgang Auer and Simon Tedd at Hotline Studios, Frankfurt if that helps anyone to dig up some info.

Necros - Conquest For Death 7″

Monday, August 14th, 2006

necros_conquest.jpgThe best Necros 7inch besides their first Sex Drive. And Take Em Up is their best song ever. Both musically and especially lyrically: “Take em up take em up. Those cripples in their wheelchairs. Take em up take em up. Can’t park close to anywhere. Take em up take em up. My cars ten miles away. Take em up take em up. Cripples gonna hafta pay. Chorus: When I go to the store. I can’t park in front no more. And at the discoteque I hafta park in back. Take em up take em up. Special places two and three. Take em up take em up. No places for you and me. Take em up take em up. Special stickers on their cars. Take em up take em up. So you know who they are.”

For ONCE a band adressed a sever problem here in the western world that actually touch people!

Vandaalit - Betonikolossit 7″

Monday, August 14th, 2006

vandaalit_betonikolossit.jpgThe guy behind the Break The Rules compilations(one of the best in the series of all “KBD” boots) decided to go for the a-side Betonikolossit on volume 9. I think the b-side Hipinreuhake is way better. 500 pressed of this their first release out of three.
