Grisen Skriker - S/T E.P. 7″

Thursday, August 3rd, 2006

grisenskriker_ep.jpgGrisen skriker was the headlining act at the first punk gig I went to in spring 1979. I loved them and I played this their first record to death.

The TV Eye // Drummer and I once dressed up and played on the streets of Linkoping equiped with two acoustic guitars and Sextiofem was in our set. I still remember this old lady that asked us over and over to play Sextiofem(65 a song about being that old and have nothing to live for). It was great but somewhat sad since I think the lyric reflected exactly how she felt.

Private Dicks - She Said Go 7″

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

privatedicks.jpgPrivate Dicks came out with a very distinctive sound on She Said Go wich is defenitly their own. Too bad the b-side is so incredible bad. Bad arty fartsy stuff. Arty stuff done the boring way. And since I don’t want to contribute to people developing bad taste or faling to sleep I won’t post it.

Private Dicks disintegrated within six months of being managed by Mark Dean, the man who discovered George Michael. Dean himself said later: ”The Dicks should have been bigger worldwide than Wham ever were”.

Some Chicken - New Religion 7″

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

somechicken.jpgHa ha ha Galway Kinnel the drummer of Some Chicken is hilariously bad. But bad in a good way. How he struggles to be in beat and pace with the music. But you can clearly hear he loves what he’s doing. They also released a 12inch on RAW called Arabian Daze which I haven’t heard. Anyone know what happened to these guys?

This is so refreshing to put on after listening to Rush or Yes. On the almighty RAW label.

Cortex - Sleepwalking 7″

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

cortex_cover.jpgOhhhh shit it’s Freddie Wadling behind the microphone again(Perverts etc). He gives me big goose bumps all over everytime he opens his mouth. I actually enjoy the a-side Sleepwalking alot nowadays though in the past it was always Jesus i betong that got the spins on my turntable. You cannot underestimate Freddie Wadlings huge impact on the early punk scene. A voice so unique and still going strong.

Bags - Survive 7″

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

bags_cover.jpgI’m pretty sure some of the other blogs out there have posted this Bags 7inch before. I’ve searched for it but can’t find it now so here we go. A classic release from a classic band and from classic label. Two outstanding tracks that stands the test of time. But dosen’t all the tracks posted here do that? Well they do actually so that wasn’t a necessary comment.

The band was formed by Alice Armandariz and Pat Morrison, who had met at an audition for Venus and the Razorblades, Kim Fowley’s next attempt at creating a band after The Runaways had left him. Alice and Pat decided to form their own band and from this The Bags were born.

Aussie madness: Rocks, Suicide Squad and more…

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

badtimes.jpgYou HAVE to check out Erichs post of the Not So Humdrum compilation. Tracks with The Rocks, Suicide Squad, Vigil-Ante and more. And while you’re there to download your free lunch take a look around for some other great posts there. Among the highlights you’ll find a rant about The Monks, brazil punk, a great german punk band from 1980 called the KFC and more. Erich got a nice and personal style of writing and I’m glad to know that he probably piss off a person or two that don’t have the slightest sence of humour. And he was in one of those old super fast roaring shit bands Fear Of iPod(read his “Fuck The Kids” rant) or something:

Automatics - When The Tanks… 7″

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

automatics.jpgOk, this one isn’t that obscure. Nevertheless it’s a great one. Here’s what 77punk.co.uk have to say about the Automatics and I don’t agree at all:”In effect its a weak powerpoppy single in the vein of bands like The Jags or Tonight. That said they were reputed to be quite a lively live act.“. So if you’ve never checked them out cause of that here’s your chance! Great punk rock in the vein of Generation X. And they’re counting in in German on When The Tanks… so that’s not punk?? Ehh?

The cover is really tuff to make a good scan of since it’s so much silver color in it. Yeah my scanner sucks.

Slime - Controversial 7″

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

slime.jpgControversial was first posted by James/Worthless Trash. But since James changed his concept the old postings is gone. And this is such a killer that it needs to be posted again. Jock Sayers vibrating style of singing is what really makes the Slime. Love it!

Loony is very reministic of one of those Damned songs. He who know which one will win a pink safety pin that has been pierced to hold my ass togheter.

On the same label as Bog Ugly posted before.

Mind Games - Sorry About That Chief! 7″

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

mindgames.jpgAs heard on one of the best compilations that’s been released the last years: Staring Down The Barrel LP 12″. The Mind Games from California. Here’s the info from the aforementioned compilation:”Hiding inside a cheesy pic sleeve(complete with OBI strip) lurks this 45 of Godzilla-like-proportions. This punked-out-homeage to “Get Smart” was pressed in a tiny edition of 100 copies and was unknown to collectors until recently.”.

Sorry… is a raw punk classic while the flip is an obnoxious art punk ditty with a great blobbing sound through the whole track.

This band released two classic singles, one in 1979 and the other a year later. The band owned the ‘English Rose’ label themselves and released both singles on this label.
