The Mad - Fried Egg E.P. 7″

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

mad_fried_front.jpg mad_fried_back.jpgmad_fried_label_a.jpgmad_fried_label_b.jpg

Not as great as their first 7inch I Hate Music that Erich posted some days ago. But if this had been their only effort and not compared to their debute I think it would be much more talked about.

The title track is worthless crap. But the other two love songs are awesome Germish blasters coupled with over the top lyrics. Don’t know if the drugs have started to taking over The Mad but their instrumentation sounds sloopy(but in a good way) and loose here.

Screaming Mad George went on to the world of movies as a Special FX artist. The only effort I’ve seen from him is in the movie Society. And yes the FX material is just what you would expect from someone who name himself Screaming Mad George. Very very bizzare.

Really Red - Crowd Control 7″

Another split post togheter with Erichs Good Bad Music For Bad, Bad Times! Here’s Texas Really Reds debute 7inch from 1979.

One of the few bands that manage the transition from a great punk rock band to an equally great HC band. Loud guitars and a tight hi hat upfront in the mix makes this irresistebale. All their stuff is classic except for their live ditty: Despise Moral Majority 7inch.

So enjoy this and then head over to Erichs post of their second 7inch: Modern Needs.

Ops! I just realised that Dressed For The H Bomb posted this too. But once again “someone” have speeded it up.

Four Four(4/4) - All Wound Up 7″

4_4_front.jpg4_4_back.jpg4_4_label_a.jpg4_4_label_b.jpg

A recent find from Justin at collectorscum.com. That this haven’t been comped yet beats me. All Wound Up is a great Costelloesque powerpoper. But what really makes this record is the flip. Systematic is a killer! The farfisa and that hook laden chorus: Systematic S-s-s-systematic. Hell yeah! Stutter rules. It gets stuck in your head after a few seconds.

The only thing I managed to dig up about 4/4 is that they where from N.Y. Any New Yorker around here remember these guys?

Some records can be spinned 10 times in a row then you get somewhat tired of them. Then there are some rare ones that can be on repeat like forever. This is one of them.

It’s been posted elsewhere I know but here you get it once again. Who knows it may slipped between the chairs for some punk rockers. Everything about this record is perfect! From the handstamped sleeve to the primtive raw production and of course the excellent song writing.

A classic that I like even more now then when I bought it. Strange isn’t it? Their firts LP is essential too then they went on a post punk/indie journy that lost me. But these tracks and the ones on the first volume of Master Tape are what counts in my opinion. Great thuging HC with a nice low budget production.

Here’s something for the emo kids:”You can’t go on much longer that way. You won’t go on much longer that way. You’re all too sane. It’s painful pain. It’s time you went insane. You will go insane. It’s always a painful day. In every fucking way.” -Pain.

Nasty Facts - Drive My Car E.P. 7″

nasty_facts_drive_front.jpgnasty_facts_drive_back.jpgnasty_facts_drive_label_a.jpgnasty_facts_drive_label_b.jpg

I’m trying out a new format for the postings. Maybe it will be even more fun for everybody as I try to scan most of the material related to the post. The pictures are also bigger!

Most of you’ve probably heard one of the best punk/powerpop 7inches ever released. But hopefully this will be new to some here. I post it cause this is one of those that shouldn’t be missed.

The one and only release from N.Y. Nasty Facts. Ok, not quiet true since they did release a CD EP two years ago. It’s not that bad actually! The winner is Drive My Car which is bordering on how the Descendents later sounded. Words can’t describe how great this little bit of plastic is. There’s a european pressing of this out on 5th Column too.

Nastyfacts made quite an impact on the early NY punk/new wave scene, especially considering that they only released one 3-song 45, and were just teenagers at the time.

L Seven - Insanity E.P. 7″

Friday, September 15th, 2006

lseven.jpgThe most underrated 7inch released by Touch & Go? I bought it cause of the label. And what a freaking nice suprise it was! Here I was expecting some bad ass HC and out of the speakers came some incredible awesome post-punk or whatever you want to call it. I spin this before Necros-IQ32 anytime!

When the band formed, Larissa was the one who was the most into the exploding English punk scene, and she started a fanzine called Anonymous. It was through this fanzine that she got to know the Necros,…

Gang Green - Sold Out E.P. 7″

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

gang_green_sold_vinyl.jpgIn the early 80s I did some trades with Curtis out of Taang! Records and he was kind enough to send me this. 100 copies made and this is number 42. Do I want to brag about it? Of course I want!

After this Gang Green went downward. But this, Boston Not L.A. and Unsafe At Any Speed is killer stuff. One of the bigger moments in my life(right after the first time I painted my first swastika on a ripped t-shirt in 1978) has to be when hearing GG on Boston. It was a totally new world. How the fuck did they manage to sound that fast? Still to this day I think the drumming of GG is hard to top.

The so called Dub song is Terrorize without vocals. So you need that one for the next karaoke night? Download this now cause: MP3 collectors are ungrateful pretentious assholes. Record collectors on the other hand are the sweetest and the most adorable persons in the world.

Didjits - Headless 7″

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

didjits_headless.jpgOk, I’ll jump on the bandwagon regarding Touch & Go’s 25th anniversary. For me their best stuff have always been the early HC releases. I like some Scratch Acid. But Didjits was a big doze of fresh air 1990 when all these generic and stereotyped HC bands came from NY and just destroyed all the fun.

And oh boy was it nice to see a 7inch portraying a big Marijuana plant on the cover in an era of stupid Straight Edge kids.

This 7inch from Didjits is a true classic. Their own Headless have been spinned alot. And their take on the Dickies classic Give It Back is done with finess. A little too close to the original though. But in an era with crap music this was welcomed.

Head over to Last Days Of Man to read Joes visit to the T&G party. Something I Learned Today have also posted a couple of nice T&G tracks for you to chew on.

The Standbys - S/T E.P. 7″

Friday, September 8th, 2006

standbys.jpgI went nuts when hearing it the first time over at Strange Reaction. So I tracked down a copy(thanks to Roger Mah) and have to popularise it over here.

This should’ve been a two tracker. Listen to the other two tracks over SR that’s not posted here. I’m asking myself why they tried to sound like a bad Clash rip off on the other tracks when they had their own thing going on the two rippers posted here.

From a post at SR we can learn that Ted Olson the drummer went on to a more known band called Battalion Of Saints.
