Grind? Hardcore? hahaha
The Hi-Fi’s would probably considered powerpop in most parts of the world…
November 10th, 2006 at 6:04 pm
This is definately powerpop and contains 2 members that went on to form alt. country/pop band Blue Rodeo.
November 10th, 2006 at 6:37 pm
This is good power pop.Another band from the same erea as the Hi-fi’s is the “Way Outs”.Probably shared a member as well.I haven’t heard the “Way Outs” in years but it was from the early 80’s and it was killer catchy punk rock with “spacey” production.Would love to hear it again! The Way Outs!

Proto grind that is leaning towards the Byrds(Mick Harris first band)The blast beats are wicked!

Greg Keelor and Jim Cuddy went on to start CanRock institution Blue Rodeo. Interestingly enough, Blue Rodeo’s first drummer, Cleave Anderson, played for The Battered Wives.
By the way, this is a great blog. This lost music needs to be documented in digital format, and it’s great to see people dedicated to doing so.

Honestly - I’m not even sure if this still falls into the Powerpop category! It’s so close to the Beatles it could be from the 60s almost! But I’m luvin it!! Both songs are equally good. Want that one!
November 13th, 2006 at 11:06 am

Why do people call anything “powerpop” when as a rule it’s played with a limp wrist? Shouldn’t it be “limpop” or something? Nothing “power” about it…

Check out the book “Have Not Been The Same — The CanRock Renaissance”. They have a chapter about Blue Rodeo and mention the Hi-Fi’s. I was wondering if I’d ever be able to hear it, and sho’ ‘nuf…there you go posting it!
Thanks!
