The Power Chords - S/T 7″

Here’s some new and excellent powerpop/punk. Unattached Strings is an awesome nearly too close to Buzzcocks melody punker that I can’t get enough of. The chorus could be stronger to acompanion the great verse but who am I to complain? Dream Girl is really bad in my opinion. Just too simple and plain. Where’s the hooks?
About their sucky name The Power Chords you can read this at their labels website:”The name “The Power-Chords” couldn’t be more, or less, ironic.”
One more thing!!! Where’s the lyric sheet? It should be law to include a lyric sheet.

……says singer/guitarist Jon Hammer. “But let’s face it, the kids today need some energy, the kind of energy that was being exerted in the late ’70s……..”
So let’s rehash music and clothing from 30 years ago instead of trying something new!! Every once in a while one of these retro bands will do something for me but this ain’t one of them. If I was a kid right now in 2007 I’d be looking at these guys the same way I used to scowl at the hippies! Pointless. Pop music is fine–xerox copies of a dead era is pitiful.

their demo song “New Pheromones” is way better. They put on a great show as well.

I’ve seen these dudes play. I give them credit for flying the flag, which is why most of the kiddies seem to like them in our town, but they kinda lack in the tunes area. They rehash the same buzzcocks-esque chord/harmony progressions but don’t add much to it. Singer is a little flat and monotone. I think they have the right idea, just need a little more grit in their step. Shows aren’t anything to write home about in my book. They look good on the cover though. Way to go!
They’re definitely ripe for some lame ass, bigger, record company to snatch up. The same ones that missed out on the Exploding Hearts…at least the EH would have deserved it!
You guys are young, keep it up for a couple more years and I’ll believe you!

i think it’s a great debut from this young band. it’s not easy to play this style of music as brilliant as buzzcocks or the undertones did. so, this is a cool 7″!
