V/A - Charred Remains Compilation Cassette

Monday, April 9th, 2007

charredremains_sleeve.jpg charredremains_label_a.jpgcharredremains_label_b.jpg

The first press of this classic HC/Punk compilation didn’t come with the inserts that later versions did.

Void: It’s Void ya know! Awesome and original US HC. Remember having a snippet of Condensed Flesh at the end of the Finnish Punk Ei… compilation tape and it fucked with my head for a long time before I knew what it was.

Husker Du: It’s Husker Du ya know. Awesome and original HC before they went more poppish which I love too. Bricklayer is from one of the best if not the best Live LP ever made Land Speed Record.

5051: Yeah oh well.

Rebel Truth: One of the best and most original US HC bands ever. EP tracks here are different recordings. Reagan Youth is the worst track on here. Ouchy!

Personality Crisis: One of Canadas finest punk/HC bands ever. What a great singer. You’ll either love or hate his voice. Wonder What They’re Thinking is my fave track on the whole comp. Swinging rocky HC.

Sin 34: Cool teen HC. Not too interesting.

Violent Apathy: Great HC yet a little too generic that reminds me a lot of the first White Cross 7inch posted earlier.

Dogs Of War: This is what Gentle Men Of Horror became after their great 7inch. Really good but not as good as GMOH.

Misguided: Delete.

Articles Of Faith: Have been a long fan of AOF. But this is a big disappointment. Articls Of Faith is an ok song. The rest is too boring.

Die Kreuzen: Different recordings then on the Cows And Beer 7inch. Awesome!

Double O: Not in pair with their EP yet is an ok DC HC song.

District Tradition: Waste of space.

Toxic Reasons: From their first War Hero 7inch. Great song!

U.X.B.: Oh no!

Cosmetics - Guilt 7″

This is a record by a criminally underrated band called the Cosmetics. This is the kind of music that’s quiet typical for the years 1979-1980: plenty of melody, clever arrangements and a sweet tooth for hooks. I’m feeling like a raggare when I’m listening to this. Thinking “This kind of music ain’t made no more. Bands where far more enjoyable and better in the old days.”. Kind of pathetic ain’t it. But believe me I’m really trying to let new bands into my ears.

They’ve played Fall Out Boy a lot on the radio lately and I’ve tried to give ‘em a shoot. But boy what a boring band. No substance. No passion. Just as interesting as disco was in the 70s only less dangerous. But I guess it’s the kind of the same feeling that the mid ’80s HC fanatics gets while listening to the Cosmetics. Powerpop rules and HC sucks!

Ok, this site ain’t dedicated to more known bands no matter how good they are. But some known bands just needs to be posted. The Cortinas is one of them. And another reasons is that it’s great to pull in them known bands when I don’t have the time to write something worthwhile(as if I ever have ha ha) cause you can find just about everything about them just by googling or yahooing. This is punk with a lot of swinging rock in it. Over the top song writing makes this one of my faves from 1977.

Social Unrest - Making Room For Youth E.P. 7″

One of the best bands I’ve seen is Social Unrest in Copenhagen 1987. Absolutely amazing and about 50 people watching them. The lesser people in the audience the better concert or so it seems. This was after their height(after the Rat In A Maze 12inch). Still it blew everything I’ve seen before away. When I think about I don’t think I’ve seen such a great band after this either. Maybe except for some japanese new wave/electro band down in Roskilde 1989. Can’t remember the name of them.

To my ears this is the best SU ever did. From the quiet typical punker in Making Room For Youth, short but sweet Join… to the awesome herky jerky Rush Hour. Creetin K-OS is hands down one of the best voices found in punk and really suits the youthful and naive lyrics on here. Enjoy suckers!

The End - S/T 7″

end_label_a.jpg end_label_b.jpg

This one came in late in my life. I had never heard about The End until a year ago or something like that. It says 1980 on the labels but sources have confirmed it was released in Oct. 1979. With that said the b-side Krossa! has to be one of the earliest attempt at HC along with the likes of Middle Class, Bad Brains, Germs, Massmedia and ____(fill in your own band).

The first copies came with a sleeve: white with fingerprints and The End hand stamped on the front. I haven’t seen one. Recorded on a 2 track in a school in Mora/Sweden. What tickles me is the end of Krossa! listen to the knocking. Who’s knocking? My guess is Gosta Bohman from Moderaterna.

A must read is Stuart Schraders article published in MRR February 2005(thanks for the link Stuart). He cover bands like Problem, Razzia, Homo Electrica and of course The End.

The End was:
Patrik Gustavsson:Drums(axe murdered in Mora in 1991)
Ingemar Sollgard:Guitar
Bengt Agefjord:Bass, Vocals

Country: Sweden
Year: 1979
Label: The End

Eyes - Taqn 7″

For completist reasons I just have to upload some classic Dangerhouse stuff. You don’t mind don’t ya? Most of you know this but hopefully someone who’ve been hiding under his cock(rock?) have missed it. Dickiesque as hell but I don’t mind at all. Most people prefer TAQN and it’s a great song but for Idi Amins sake don’t let the equally great Topological Lies slip you by.

Did you know that Joe Ramirez later joined Slayer? Changed his name though.
