Another one of those “One of the best swedish punk records ever”. Born in the same suburb of Stockholm as Ebba Gron: Ragsved. Most of the Stockholm bands where of course known in most parts of Sweden but it wasn’t until the TV Eye // Drummer introduced me to them a couple of years ago that I heard and heard about them for the first time.

If the first track Arabien would’ve been released today they would’ve easily ended up on some militant muslims death list. It’s just an ordinary anti religion song though Islam is used as the subject and not Christianity as in the majority of punk rock songs.

Luckily for the non swedes here’s a page in english about FDS plus an unreleased track:

The Winner Takes It All

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Three lucky midgets will get The Eat 2×12″LP:

A. Hardison Collins

B. Tony Azu-Popow

C. Thomas M. Brassard.

The right answers:

1. Did Exploited save punk rock? = Um, no. (Tony Azu-Popow)

2. Who lit Rodney Bingenheimers hair on fire? = The Dils. (Thomas M. Brassard)

3. Why is swedish punk superior to punk from the rest of the world? = Racial purity would be the most obvious answer. (Hardison Collins)

4. How many decimals do PI have?= Magnum PI does not need decimals, just a helicopter and that black guy. (Hardison Collins)

5. Can you count to three? = Yes. (Tony Azu-Popow)

Wasn’t that hard ehh? The three persons above are condemned to contact me with their full address or they will burn in hell togheter with Ingmar Bergman.

I don’t know what to say about this. Words can hardly describe the greatness of the debute from The Celibate Rifles. Energhy checked. Ok! Tightness checked. Ok! Melodies that stands out checked. Ok! Good lyrics checked. Ok! Lets download.

Thanks for the MASSES of emails that came and still are coming in for The Eat contest. But the contest ended the 24th of July. Winners will be announced shortly.

Anonymous - Snake Attack/Corporate Food 7″

Maybe you’ve heard Corporate Food on the infamous, and probably one of the most important US punk compilations ever: Let Them Eat Jellybeans. But what strucked me is that I really needed to hear Corporate Food again but this time in it’s original format to be able to fully appreciate its greatness. I can’t even remember hearing it on LTEJ. Probably I thought it was too fucked up or something to like it back then. But today my kids I have to say it’s one of the best songs I’ve heard in a long time. So wacky. So much “fuck you” attitude it hurts lies buried in this masterpiece. The guitar solo brings Geza X to mind for some reason. Sounds so controlled yet like he couldn’t care less if it would fit. Amazing.

Snake Attack is far from Corporate Food. Put on your Residents/Snakefinger ears. I happen to like it. Strange. But as I put it on it hypnotize me and I just sit there through the whole song listening to it.

You know LTEJ was released by Alternative Tentacles which reminds me to remind you about The Eat contest that’s going on. Loads of emails are coming in and so far I’ve picked one winner. Keep ‘em coming.

Win the new The Eat CD / LP!!

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Ok, folks! The nice people at Alternative Tentacles have decided to run a contest here at the KBD blog for the brand new, and may I add awesome, The Eat - It’s Not The Eat, It’s The Humidity CD/LP. The CD/LP compiles songs from all their records and loads of unreleased material. You need this.

So you’re a poor bastard or just a cheap ass punk who don’t want to spend money on punk records? Here’s you’re chance to win a copy of the LP. AT is giving away 3 LPs in total so the first 3 persons who can answer these three mind bending questions and send it off to: info@kbdrecords.com subject: The Eat Contest, will get a nice The Eat vinyl to chew on:

1. Did Exploited save punk rock?

2. Who lit Rodney Bingenheimers hair on fire?

3. Why is swedish punk superior to punk from the rest of the world?

4. How many decimals do PI have?

5. Can you count to three?

The contest ends on the 24th of July and the winners will be presented shortly after this date.

Note it’s a double LP! There’s 3 double LPs to be given away not 5 as stated before. There was some miss from my side.

Have I ever used the word “killer” to let you know how great a song is? Or that it “destroys”? Both these superlatives can be applied to describe White Stains by The Molls. That end when it gets really chaotic and it sounds like a schizo saxophone enters the song makes me want to yell: Hell yeah! Is Chesty Dead? is not as hooky and direct but still a great and creepy song. Peter Prescott who would later turn up in Mission Of Burma do the drums. Dosen’t seem like he was a regular member cause his name is not in bold on the back as the others.

Just built me a new PC so I’ll try out a new format for the mp3s. They’re now recorded in 24 bit and exported in 256kbps. Any difference sound wise? Let me know pllleeeasee.

Here’s the second installment in a series of two. Look below for the first one. Awesome and weird synth punk the way Tony like it. My favorite track from both the 7inches can be found here: Identity Loss. Heres the synth not as nasty to the ears as on the first one. If that’s good or bad depends on how damaged your ears are I suppose.

Take note of the great looking sleeves of both these pearls.

Had to watch American Hardcore for the second time today. There’s something I really like about the movie that the book didn’t accomplish: I get inspired when I see it. And as long as a movie does that to me it serves it’s purpose. Yeah, I know we all miss some bands in there. Government Issue is one of them. I can’t recall their name being mentioned one time. Remember the first time hearing this. It was so atonal much due to John Stabbs vocals. But it was just as great as the Teen Idles, played the same night, which I heard for the first time in 1981 on Radio Ryd a student show hosted by Mats Nilsson from Massmedia/Huvudtvatt.

Found this podcast interview with John Stabb that might be interesting:
http://dissonance.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=187184

This piece really offended me back then:
“Groups like Crass still believe in it
That’s why their music’s fulla a shit
It’s not music is just a sermon
Groups like Crass are all just vermin
Anarchy is dead!”

Ha ha!

Active Ingredients - Hyper Exaggeration 7″

I think this the first of the two releases(the second release coming up later on) that Active Ingredients released at the same time. Two awesome 7inches in a limited run of 250 copies each. As soon as you hear the guitar in the intro of Hyper Exaggeration you know you’re about to be blown away. Then in comes this hyper pitched synth that got a sound that make dogs cry. Marvelous. Powerpop synth punk on the highest level. Bird On Fire got a twisted jerky edge that I like just as much.

Franché Coma who plays bass on these two tracks was also in the Misfits:
