If it’s not from the States or Sweden you can be sure it’s from Australia. Thought Criminals did just as most other punk bands in the 70’s: carved out a sound totally of their own.

Inspired by the Desperate Bicycles they went on to form their own label Doublethink that put out a fair amount of great records. The Hilton Bomber 7inch is probably their most famous record and the one that is hardest to get hold of but this second plastic is just as great. Most of you might know that they’re together again and offer their latest anthology CD/LP for free: I won’t pay for punk records.

As with many other Australian punk bands I’m amazed at the speed many of them manage to achieve as early as 1978 or for that matter in 1977 if you take a listen to Flipped Out Over You by The Victims. Download Fuck Their Neighbors from the link above and you’ll hear what I mean. Or for that matter Display/Response: Action below.

excellent post! it doesn’t get mch better than this!!

  2. The Flakes // Drummer says:

It can get a bit better Erich if you tell the story about Ingo Eitelbach sending you the Hilton Bomber by accident.

  3. Simon says:

If it’s not from the States or Sweden you can be sure it’s from Australia.

Ehhh…Subhumans, Viletones, Dishrags, DOA, Pointed Sticks, Forgotten Rebels, Demics, Teenage Head, Dream Dates, Simply Saucer anyone? Australia 1975-’80 is my favourite punk scene of all time, but ’70’s Canada was nothing to sneeze at.

  4. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Simon, I see what you mean now. What I meant is that I mostly post stuff from USA, Sweden or Australia. The UK scene is nothing short but amazing too.

  5. Erich says:

I only hope one day there shall be a law against liking Forgotten Rebels, haha.

  6. The Flakes // Drummer says:

I thought there was a law against that already?

  7. Ingo says:

I sent you the Hilton Bombers, Erich???

  8. Erich says:

By mistake, yes (I had ordered something else and then sent it back, cause I’m a nice boy) – or wasn’t that you?

  9. Zoe says:

    A really fantastic band.

You didn´t read the post? “Most of you might know that they’re together again and offer their latest anthology CD/LP for free: I won’t pay for punk records.”

    • justin says:

Damn Peter, that’s twice today that you have people not reading the post and repeating what you said. By the way, it seems like all you ever do is post stuff from USA, Sweden or Australia. :-)

    • SICKNICK! says:

yeah, i think i just got really excited on this one and scrolled down to the bottom to post.. it wasnt until after i posted that i realized!

  12. zach says:

almost as good as Seems Twice 7″.

  13. The Flakes // Drummer says:

How could punk not be about material possesions? It always has.

  14. Nathan.G says:

Never heard of punk spirit, punk energy? Add to the list punk attitude. All these things are intangibles.

  15. Nathan.G says:

The reason these records by the likes of The Thought Criminals, Young Identities, etc, go for such ridiculous prices is that they are unique pieces of art, the modern musical equivalent of a Rembrandt, Picasso or Mondrian. Not to mention that they are hideously rare…

  16. Nathan.G says:

If punk is dead, then this site does not exist.
