The Skunks from Texas did one REALLY great song: Earthquake Shake. Amazing blend of hard rock and punk. Great licks, intense drive, great sound and clever lyrics to follow along. The a-side tells you more how The Skunks sounded most of the time. Yeah like a tired bar band with songs too long. Sorry.

I’ve always been rather fond of “You Really Know How to Put the Pressure On” from the purple album.

“Gimme Some” is an even better song than “Earthquake Shake”. Their Rave-Up lp is pretty great.
The “Cheap Girl” 7″ is REALLY good too.

Nice post! This 7″ is one of my favorite Texas records, right up there with the Bobby Soxx 7″. They get such a great catchy garage-y racket going on both tracks. Earthquake Shake is the winner but Can’t Get Loose is great too and has grown on me over the years, especially towards the end with that quick bass solo. This 1st 7″ of theirs was their best moment- in my opinion, all their subsequent 7″s and LP’s paled in comparison and can’t match up.

i was a kid on the texas scene starting in late 79, and the only band that made me roll my eyes and groan more than the skunks was the hates. the hates were nearly a totally fake band. but that’s for another song.
i was surprised as shit a coupla weeks ago when i heard a song i really liked being performed on a local station and found out it was good ol’ jesse sublett (former stinkin’ skunk).
