From HC to some old powerpop/mod/punk by the obscure The Crack. Making The Effort is a fantastic punk stomper that I don’t think been comped yet? The b-side Easy Street sound very much like Flying Again by The Members in the beginning. It’s a great song but just a tiny tiny bit too long. Found some info about Steve Larkman who’s responsible for the writing of both the songs:”Records with the band The Crack featuring the tracks Easy Street and Making The Effort which were played on Radio 1. The band split amidst a legal battle with the record label…“.

Is this a different Crack than the one who put out an LP in 1989? They’re also british and are still together. Their stuff has been reissued on Captain-Oi! and they were quite good.

B side is a bit meh..

The Crack won Battle of The Bands back in the late 70’s my brother Shane was lead guitar and songwriter. The final was held at The Dominion Theatre London. The lads were all from Cheltenham…
Great band as were scream and scream again/ screaming dead/the alto/subject pigfish/dead airmen/ are you in touch with any of these band members????

The Crack won the battle of the bands in march 1982, then got signed up by R C A in 83 me and steve jones wrote all the songs, I still have some that have not been released , I will be putting the video of The Crack winning the battle of the bands on you tube in the near future, one of the best gigs we had was at Skunks (blue coat boy) ,absolutely mental stuff,Shane Woolridge

I lived in Cheltenham at the time the Crack won Battle of the Bands. Used to follow an RnB pub band called the Road Runners, with Gordon wood on lead vocals/base guitar. I think you knew him.

I’ve never heard such a load of bollox in all my life from posters claiming this band as their own. They weren’t from Gloucester or Cheltenham – they were from Hull.
I can give you the addresses of at least two of the members.

Great band. They actually were from Gloucester. There’s a dutch pressing of this 7″ with a neat p/s.
