M.O.T.O. - Blast Of Silence E.P. 7″

Friday, October 31st, 2008

The first release from Swedens Radio Obligato Records is USA’s own Masters Of The Obvious. Paul Caporino who’s been going since 1981 IS M.O.T.O. and he change band members as often as I change fluids with my boyfriend.

I’ve heard a lot about M.O.T.O. but never cared to check him out as I often tend to be disappointed with new bands that get the talk of the town. Last friday I had the chance to experience Mr. Capriano IRL(for you non geeks that’s In Real Life). Fuck it wasn’t that bad at all! He’s in his 50’s and looks like something from a Jean M Auels book. Total neanderthal punker. Quiet entertaining and with a huge and awesome guitar sound the band went through a one hour set with a loads of hits. At home I was even more surprised as soon as Blast Of Silence poped out of my speakers. Fuck me it’s great! A true hit. Driving, tight and yeah I just love Caporinos voice. It’s something dark. I know he’s hiding something. I hear it. He’s not that happy. And I love it. Four songs. One left over: I Used to tell the Truth. But the rest is solid stuff. Very simple but with a twist that get you hooked.

Here’s a 2 song treat for you which will make you wanna head over to: www.radioobligato.com and get yourself a copy. Don’t forget to check out Johans very own podcast while you’re there!

Chronic Sick - Cutest Band In Hardcore E.P. 12″

Monday, October 27th, 2008

I´m sick and I´m bored. Can´t fell more punk then that eh. Only thing that can sheer me up right now is staring at the sleeve of the Chronic Sick 12″. What the hell where they thinking? We just want to offend as many people as possible including all the punks. Those lads could play and make catchy songs and look as if they wanted to get beaten up a lot. A drag queen, a Sid Vicious wannabe with a nicely done swastika on his forehead and bad skin complex, a headbanger with a german/pub band mustache and your average punk.

Cutest band in Hardcore for sure but to be honest it´s not much HC in here. More on the melodic side of punk and it´s good really good even great. CS lyrics have stirred up some confusion and especially There Goes The Neighborhood. Read it! It´s a piss take at the racist not the other way around as far as I´m concerned.

Don´t forget to take a look at all the extras I´ve scanned. Who wouldn´t like to hire these guys for a family dispute?

The Pinheads - Please Look E.P. 7″

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

Here’s the second EP from Sweden’s laziest punx, The Pinheads. It took them a few years to follow up their debut 7″, but at least they managed to write at least two new songs, switch from Swedish to English and record a feedback driven live version of Neat, neat, neat before they hit the studio again. Peter, your tinnitus will love their cover version!

Please look is a sweet love song about a poor sod who can’t get any attention from the girl he loves, despite his stalking skills. Thankfully he’s got a plan of how to get her attention. All in all a very nice story with a happy ending. I wanna be free takes place before 6 PM for sure as the singer is walking around in a pair of brown shoes, which no one with class and manners would do after dark. And manners have always had a huge impact on Swedish punx, as you can see on these nicely dressed and clean-cut gentlemen. They would never break the rules of etiquettes, that’s for sure.

I’m sorry if I may appear a bit impolite and rude, but I don’t have enough time to write anything else as I have a huge dinner party to plan for tonight. Ta ta.

Ducky Boys - Mercenary E.P. 7″

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Joe of Last Days has an excellent post on the 80’s NJ/USA scene. In the comment section we started to talk about a forgotten Mutha Records band named Partners In Crime who released a great 12″ which will be posted in the near future. The music is great but what tops it is the members outrageous biker look. You have to see to believe. This led me to Ducky Boys. I mean take a look at these tuff guys! Should I laugh, be scared or just cry?

The guy on the left has to be a genuine retard. Camouflage dress and a hand grenade in his right hand? Ha ha you gotta be kidding. Oh wait! Who’s on the right? It’s Alma Merced holding a knife while thinking about who she’s going to cut next. Hope it’s not me :(. With names like Al Catraz(Guitar, Vocals), Charlie Cutemup(Bass), Alma Merced(Vocals), Phlegm(Drums) and Broadway Turk Superstar(Vocals) they’re trying to convince us that they want to be mercenaries hooked on junk that just need some little loving tonight.

Adolescents - Amoeba 7″

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Here’s a treat for all you punx who wants to hear old classics instead of new records. Enjoy a song you know too well and share your sexual fantasies and memories of the tanned and attractive O.C. boys in the comments.

Is there anything else I have to write here? I’ve used the word punx, mentioned cute boys and encouraged you to write down your sexual fantasies… Nah, I think that’s all that has to be included in a post.

The Numbers - S/T E.P. 7″

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

First published on April the 5th 2006. Added more scans and high quality rips of all the songs.

Their first and best release. Not to be confused with The Numbers that later became The Riptides. Look at the sleeve!!!! I just love those typography rich sleeves and add to that a nice textured paper. The things I’ve heard post this release is a little too soft and the energy is gone. Too bad cause this 7″ is a KILLER record and promised a lot. From Sydney/Australia.

Swedish proggressive punk with saxophone…I know that this description will make you run a mile or two to avoid what you think is crap. But please take a listen to this - it´s a genuin DIY-feeling put to vinyl in 1978. Wonderful!
