Private School – Lost In Action E.P. 7″

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Happy New Year Behjan! Here´s one for ya! What was it with these Canadians bands that decided that mail envelope sleeves was a good idea? Private School, Braineaters and Presence(that I know of) had this great looking size for sure but a bummer to store.

Not only do I envy the high quality of this EP, except Sci. Fi., I´m also jealous that they opened up for The Police in 1979: http://www.punkhistorycanada.ca/noise/view.php?cat_id=31&id=207. Comped on Smash The State Vol. 2 this accompanies Erichs post of the fantastic Lowlife 7″

A Horrible New Year to you all and I hope 2009 will be as bad and rotten as 2008.

Perverts – Nevergreens E.P. 7″

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

As it’s Christmas now I thought I should give you something  you all want when Santa brings his big sack. Nope, I’m not talking about head, but a pervert! I know you won’t admit it, but deep down inside you all wish you would have the guts to write down “a pervert” on the top of your Chrismas wish list.

The Perverts were among the major players in Gothenburg, and despite their name, their most famous song Ronka (jerk off), original member Mats Drougge who later found fame with semi-porno-macho-magazine Slitz and their nude posing on the cover of Funtime fanzine, they were actually quite serious. If you don’t believe me, just look at the lyrics to this, their second and last E.P.

The Insane – S/T E.P. 7″

Two weeks ago one of my shelfs just gave up and 5 7″ was lying all over the floor. One of the boxes lying there was the one with rejected darlings for sale/trade. I gave The Insane’s first(?) another spin and realized I had to keep it. And what a keeper it is. So incredible raw. Fantastic sound that cuts through your ear drums like a psychotic Santa armed with a chainsaw ready to let some children ride his sharp and roaring gift. They did a second 7″ El Salvador that I didn’t pay much attention but it may be as great as this? Really like the sleeve for this one too.

Back in 1982 these guys sang about the horrors of 8 million computers in Sweden, and I guess we’re almost there now. Feels pretty scary to say the least, and I can feel how my computer is affecting my way of thinking 24/7 as it keeps telling me to go online and search for records from my want list. I still have a hope that one day I’ll be strong enough to ignore what my computer tells me, and that day I’ll be really free.

So what about Sabotage 81 then? They are a surprisingly well known band considering that this 7″ is their only release apart from a few songs on some Rosa Honung compilations. Maybe it’s because Rosa Honung re-released this E.P. 2 years later in a different cover, and that that version is one of the easiest punk records to find in Sweden? Or maybe it’s just because Staffan looks so damn happy on the cover that it’s impossible not to fall in love with him? He looks way too happy for being in a band with so aggressive lyrics about killing cops at least. And how come the only two punk bands from Halmstad, Vicious Visions and these guys, were so hateful when the city’s most famous guy Per Gödsel seemed so happy and wrote catchy songs about girls on TV and about fishing? Maybe I should go online and see if I can find any info on the subject as that’s what my computer tells me to do now.

Canadas Gentlemen Of Horror later became Dogs Of War who´s only appearance can be found on the Charred Remains compilation tape posted some time ago. Totally amateurish teen punk in the same vein as Australias Young Identities, USAs Vast Majority plus a thousands of other bands who may realized they wheren’t good enough for a release or didn’t had wealthy parents to back them up. Too bad cause as for me I can’t get enough of this sloppiness. It doesn’t always work but with the inspiration and how the times where back then it was many times enough to get that youthfull energy shining through the wax as is the case with GOH.  I googled a little bit and to my surprise I found that the GOH has a fresh website up so no need for me to ramble on. Great!
