Private School – Lost In Action E.P. 7″

Happy New Year Behjan! Here´s one for ya! What was it with these Canadians bands that decided that mail envelope sleeves was a good idea? Private School, Braineaters and Presence(that I know of) had this great looking size for sure but a bummer to store.

Not only do I envy the high quality of this EP, except Sci. Fi., I´m also jealous that they opened up for The Police in 1979: http://www.punkhistorycanada.ca/noise/view.php?cat_id=31&id=207. Comped on Smash The State Vol. 2 this accompanies Erichs post of the fantastic Lowlife 7″.

A Horrible New Year to you all and I hope 2009 will be as bad and rotten as 2008.

This is totally great and “Fuck You” is a stunning blinder that could easily have been a DOA track! If only Dave Gregg had kept up this level of dirt riffage in DOA…..
And I gotta say……”Hardcore 81″ sounded pretty hot to me back in 83 despite all the rawer HC stuff at the time. Never really dug much they did after that though.
When DOA played Bristol with the Subhumans (UK) in 84(?) (mentioned in Joey’s book ‘I Shithead’), there was antagonism with some members of the crowd (not mentioned as I recall….). In previous months there had been some sort of zine-related mini-controversy (puh-lease….)- some people took the lyrics of ‘Lets Fuck’ as some sort of sexist statement. A number of people were giving members of the bnad a hard time before they went on as I recall. This culminated in someone smashing a pint glass at Dave Greggs feet as he walked past. With total cool he smiled at the ‘watch-the-fuck-u-gonna-do-about-it?’ culprit, bent down and picked up all the pieces then calmly walked away. Tee hee! They rocked very hard that night.

Thanks for this great record!! Nice essay, Charlie. You should write a book.

  3. Charlie M says:

Goddam it you’re right Jay. Only tangentially ‘relevant’ but it sprung to mind as I listened…..
    Here’s a more memorable anecdote on Italy’s CCM –

I remember reading that scene report, as MRR was always a must read back then. I think I bought every fucking record that MRR said was great and gave most of them away. Thanks Charlie…now we need a book.

Who covered (or ripped off) ‘Money, Guns and Power’??? I know I’ve heard it before…

  9. Andy says:

…I know it’s on ‘Smash the State vol:2’ but I’m sure I heard someone else do it…

  10. Das says:

Awesome, I haven’t heard this in years.

Dave Gregg passed away last weekend from a heart attack. R.I.P.

  13. Marc says:

The Perks from London (Ontario) also had a mailing envelope sleeve.
And I know of some 60s/70s Canadian records that came in printed envelopes.
    Obviously a Canadian disease.
