Devils Hole Gang – Free The People E.P. 7″

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

I heard Isn’t it a few years ago on a mix CD that a friend made for me and it got my attention straight away. Unfortunately he never wrote down the names of neither the bands nor the songs on the compilation, and for reasons unknown I never got around to ask him for it. Anyway, when I saw this record I just knew that it had to be good, or at least interesting, judging from the looks of the members. And boy am I glad I decided to pick it up!

I guess Free the people was meant to be the hit, but it’s way to long and more or less an ordinary boring political rock song. But the B-side is a completely different and quirky British story to say the least. Isn’t it is such a hit, isn’t it? Utterly brilliant as they say and as great D.I.Y. pop as The Dole, The Sods (U.K.), Petticoats, Funboy Five etc. Sometimes Britain is exactly as great as her name, isn’t she? The next song sure is something to look forward to as it’s more punky pop greatness, and Chris Elliott sure gives J Mascis a run for his money in that breathtaking guitar solo! It’s actually a fucking amazing guitar solo, even for a guy like me who normally don’t enjoy public masturbation.

Anders Angest – S/T E.P. 7″

Damn it, I’ve been trying to come up with something to write about this record so many times now, but I just can’t do it. Pretty f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-frustrating to say the least as I really love this E.P. and the amazing out of tune vocals delivered by Tomas Carneheim, Umea’s # 1 punkrocker according to the articles posted on his blog.

My collector friend (and Sweden’s answer to Tom of Finland) Peter Jandreus always refers to Anders Angest as Sweden’s answer to TVP, but I can’t say that I agree with him, and I sure hope we won’t have to see these Swedes stagger up on stage with urine stained pants in an attempt to do a comeback as poor old Dan did.

For those of us who love Anders Angest there are a some more songs posted here. Farbror Punk says that these songs are from a demo, but I think it sounds like they were recorded at the same time as the 7″. Maybe someone will make a comment here and fill in the blanks… And if we have some audiophiles here, please pay attention to the amazing drum sound on these recordings. Fantastic! Wait, it’s not just the drums, everything sounds amazing on this E.P.!

RPA – S/T 7″

What is there to know about RPA(Raging Peasant Army)? Some people claim links to both Solger and The Lewd. Brad Ramels who played guitar in Lewd plays bass here. Shoot the Pope is a smash hit and should be in every hardcore lovers playlist. There’s no year to be found on the record so I have to trust the internet but it sounds very “modern” for being a HC record released in 1981. Bonecrusher is so so but anyway… Let’s see what you have to say about this cause I’m way too tired to write anything more. Fuck off!
