Inserts – S/T E.P. 7″

It REALLY is time for another post. What to do when I don’t feel like writing? Yes, that’s right I can write something about not wanting to write anything which in the end turns out to be some material for the post. Thank you I’m a genius. And it’s not the first time I do it. Is it becoming a routine? Maybe. Maybe not. Let’s see what the future brings. I think this record is great. Why? Do you want me to put words to my taste? Forget it. If you like it fine if not that’s fine too. Everything is fine! It’s punk. You can think whatever you want. Here’s Inserts from Texas.

  1. So fucking great!!! Strong DKs influence (except for the vocals, thanks gawd). First song is fantastic! Yeehaw!!!!

  2. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Glad you liked it :). Me fave is Us the Product. Killer bass line.

  3. Jay Thurston says:

“Us the Product” is great. I truly want to kill the singer…that is, if he is not already dead!

  4. dewey decimal says:

    Love it! Thanks for posting.

  5. Monger says:

wasnt the singer in boy problems prior with members of the huns? And yes, this is a good record, but aside from standing waves, who else was on classified recs?

  6. The Flakes // Drummer says:

According to the Flex site another band on the label was F-Systems:http://www.fuzzlogic.com/flex/f/1984.php. About the singer being in Boy Problems I ain´t got a clue. Anyone?

  7. Senap says:

    Sicken tossig skiva!!

  8. Scott says:

The singer was Billy Pringle (Billy Problem) and he was in Boy Problems prior to the Inserts. In the mid to late 80s he was in a funkish band with Tim Kerr (Big Boys, Poison 13) called Bad Mutha Goose and the Brothers Grimm. EV Records put out an EP of previously unreleased Texas punk called Sacred Cattle which includes a killer cut by Boy Problems.

  9. dewey decimal says:

As I said I love this 7 inch, but I’ve always thought The Inserts was one of the dumbest band names ever.

  10. Chris g says:

    FUCKING AWESOME BASS!!!!

  11. Fiddlestixx says:

Yep Us Is The Product is the winner here, but really good single all around. Thanks!!

  12. Ya’ll aren’t the only ones that want to kill me, or hated that name. Those guys playing are great. The bass player came up from Lake Jackson TX at Tim Kerrs (his old hi-school chums) encouragement. He was a guitar player who took up bass with this band. Victor went on to be in several fun bands in Austin Tx. Fred the drummer became the Big Boys second drummer after this band. You can hear how fast he plays, very distinct sound. And Steve Vanderveer moved back up north. I really liked his guitar work.
I totally didn’t know what to do with myself, back then and u can hear me wavering back and forth between my normal Texas accent and I guess some kind of british thing. That’s what happens when you send a Dallas raised meth head to Austin to dryout and he finds punk rock and beer.

  13. ohhh… and thanks for posting the MP3’s I haven’t had access to that record in a while.

  14. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Thanks for dropping by Billy and letting us know some more about the band. Did you record anything else?

  15. dewey decimal says:

Billy, the Inserts ep is fucking great, but what is that crap on your myspace page?

  16. Nothing that wouldn’t make Jay Thurstons ears shrivel up and fall off. Or mine too for that matter.

What can I say? A musical singularity with a turntable and some synthesizers.

    • Jay Thurston says:

Awwww…your voice isn’t that bad, just a little annoying. You had that British accent that threw me for a loop…I had never heard of London, Texas before…

  17. There is some amazing stuff here… this is the best site I have come across in a year.. I am not kidding… thank you for sharing

  18. Steve Vanderveer says:

Thanks for the comments, guys! It was my 28 year-old self flailing away on the guitar….. The Inserts were a terrific band if I do say so myself – I’ve always felt we could have taken it a lot farther than we did – we had a really exciting, dynamic live show, or so I’m told. Also, unlike most other bands, we all became close friends. Almost 30 years ago now – blows my freakin’ mind! sv

    • Jay Thurston says:

Holy shit, that means you are 58 years old!!! That is fucking old!!! Hahahahahaha…just kidding. Nice guitar work…..

  19. reckless says:

im still pissed at ernie for firing you for spending time w/ms valentine when go go’s were in austin/ reckless from armadillo /ps im not dead ha ha?

  20. alleywaykid says:

Doctors and Wives sounds much more Feederz-esque than Dead Kennedys-ey to me, the Us the Product bassline is very Joy Division. Rent Raiser just kills. My rent is getting raised, makes me wanna kill.

  21. Nathan G says:

I really like every track here….

  22. charlie vandeerveer says:

yaaaa my dad is the guitarist

  23. Monger says:

And now the big question..is there any live or demo/unreleased tapes of the inserts??? or Boy Problems? the one track off the EV comp 7″ is amazing and sounds like it was professionally recorded ( even tho the source tape was from a radio broadcast)

  24. sir hake says:

yeah this on is so wonderfull great funtastic punk with great melodies totally great doctors wives is the best of blood stains comp absolut ,thank you kbd.
