Shas – S/T E.P. 7″

What the heck was going on in Asa in the late 70s/ early 80s? So many bands from such a small village, and here’s one of the more obscure ones. There were more bands from the same place that unfortunately never ended up on vinyl, so if we’ll ever get to hear bands like Akut (who shared 2 members with Glo by the way), Container 2000 and Hamnd is still to be known.

This EP was posted by Paul over at the excellent site Girls from Tahiti a while ago, but judging from the comments on his site, not too many people have found their way over their yet. What a shame!

Anyway, I wanted to post my copy as well, as listening to it gives you the same warm feeling as you get from sitting in front of a fire place thanks to all the background noise. Judging from the look and sound of it, my guess is that it’s one of the many copies that was thrown from a bridge when the members got tired of them and decided play Frisbee with the remaining copies.  And with a photo copied, but glued cover it sure is a great copy I found. I wouldn’t mind a better copy though, so if you have a stack of them, please let me know.

While ripping the record I couldn’t help but notice that all four songs range between 1.23 and 1.25, so maybe that was the maximum lenght the drummer could play? He sure didn’t waist any energy on fills for sure. The only thing even remotely close to a drum fill is in En idiots drom, which just might be the worst attempt to play reggae ever recorded. The first time I heard the record I actually thought it was a drum machine and not a real person who played the skin flute. Well, the other guys didn’t try too hard to play anything but the basic notes in the songs either, so maybe they decided that less is just enough?

I love Shas. So simple yet so primitive. Like a poor mans Jethro Tull.

  2. Ian says:

The Girls from tahiti blog is great, people need to visit and comment so he is encouraged to keep that going!

  3. Martin says:

“Jag sitter på ett torg i staden Göteborg/ och sniffar thinner så varenda jävla hjärncell försvinner”. What a brilliant line!

Can anyone figure out what they sing in the second verse in “Kommer inte längre”? To me it sounds like “Dom tror du blir en riktig lodis/ Bara för du inte ligger i som en jude”, but I’m really not sure if they actually sing “jude” as if so, it’s a really weird pronunciation. Anyone’s got another suggestion of what they might sing?

  4. “ligger i som en jude”….. whaaaaaaaaaat?????

  5. The Flakes // Drummer says:

When I was a kid in the 70s it was quiet common to say things like “ta i som en jude”, “spring fort som en jude”,”svettas som en jude” etc etc. We didn’t put any deeper meaning to it and everybody used “jude” as word to describe something hard to do or the likes.

  6. mh says:

That was a very PC desrciption.
We used to throw “Small Jew” or “Big Jew”.
And I got the school record for throwing the Big Jew longest
