V/A: The Romford Stompers/Mary And Ken 7″

I know I know it sounds exactly like the Pistols has entered the grooves for a few seconds. But then! Yeah then we’re up for some catchy killer UK punk. Soooo catchy it hurts. If you won’t be humming to Dead Girls for a couple of hours after spinning you got no sense for how a great melody is made. You need a chord or three and a good idea to wrap around them and you’re there. Sounds easy but harder to execute. If Romford Stompers did anything else then this I don’t know. Please tell me that’s so. The flip with Mary And Ken ain’t something for the punk purist. Here we’re offered a silly and annoying synth song. I like it. And this is what makes old comps and splits more enjoyable then many new records: the mix! Punks and Synths unite and fight against the system!

Dead Girls is almost cool, but not quite. Thanks for another record I’ve never heard (wish I’d still never heard that Ken garbage).

  2. Jay Thurston says:

The B side sounds like a lost Adam and the Ants track. I actually like it a lot. The A side…well, you already knew I would love it!

  3. Ian says:

I like the a-side all right, but my favorite part is the sleeve.

  4. martyn says:

Great song the A side, B side interesting…
what about THE FREEZE IN COLOUR EP…

  5. Brian C. says:

I could understand and pity someone for not enjoying Mary and Ken. But not liking Dead Girls? C’mon, that’s awesome! What’s wrong with people?

  6. Brian C. says:

How about something from the early DIY group The Warm?

  7. Mike Danger says:

    Love dead girls so much.

Noticed they dont mention the B side at all, they just say two songs. hahaha
