Jim Basnight – S/T 7″

Live In The Sun is not my cup of tea though I’ve read that some people regard it as a powerpop classic. Can’t hear why. Kind of weak and lacks a good hook. The flip on the other hand is REALLY up my ally. Full on Punk Rock that ends after 1.01 and has a naughty word in the title. Sweeeet. THAT’S a classic! Jim has done loads of stuff that I haven’t had the time to dig into but I’ve heard some other stuff that’s been really good too. If you want to share your recommendations go ahead.

This is a such a great 45. I only heard it for the first time while holidaying in Seattle last year-I was, and still am, impressed. Thanks for posting it so I can add it to the mass of files I abuse of yours(and Erich’s).

You are right, the a side is no good, but that B side is great! Skit ja! And in mono!
I assume it was issued with no picture sleeve? Right up MY alley.

  3. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Glad you liked it :). Yes, it was issued without sleeve as far as I know.

Hey,I like side one,i’m a drummer and this is the kind of stuff you’re having fun with when playing…and when your football home team(Bologna fc)is trying to save you from the relegation in second division, better listen to this powerpoppin’summer stuff…

Have you ever heard the moberlys, I’m assuming it’s the singers band after this 45 considering their first album titled ‘first album’ was released in 79, and these two songs are on the full album with the same singer, just different takes. If you havn’t I could hook it up with a copy, glady. Some way to repay this wonderful website.

  6. Jay Thurston says:

Never heard of the band before…a special surprise. Thanks

Jim Basnight here. Thanks for digging the tunes. You can get any of my 6 unique CD’s (there have been a handful of re-issues done on the Moberlys, Jim Basnight and the Rockinghams) at jimbasnight.com.

I also have the new (January 2009) career retrospective on the NYC based Disclosed Records label, “We Rocked and Rolled: The First 25 Years With Jim Basnight, The Moberlys and Beyond” too or just email me at [email protected] if you have any questions.

I have a lot of good tunes, if you like either of these tracks here and probably some if you don’t. My stuff is on the power-pop and rock and roll side of things, but I have also gone out into soul a bit. Nothing that hardcore, but a lot of great tracks.
