Welsh sounds so odd to my ears. I don’t know if it’s closer to finnish than the english language? I could rip off the text about Llygod Ffyrnig directly from Marios 45 Revolutions book since I don’t know a shit about them. Germanys Incognito Records released a record a couple of years ago that I think has different songs or recordings on it?
What we have here is really crude and primitive Punk Rock with two killers and one filler: Cariad Y Bust Stop(might have a good lyric that could’ve make me enjoy it more if I understood what they sing about). Well oh well. The weather in Sweden is shit at the moment by the way. The last weekend was killer but now it’s freezing cold again. Such is life sometimes. Read some more about the “The Ferocious Mice” which I’ve learn that it translates to through Dizzys Detour site: http://www.boredteenagers.co.uk/LLYGODFFYRNIG.htm

Ah, I was thinking of posting the same record on my blog but ya beat me to it! Your rips are straight from vinyl I assume and probably sound much better than my “inherited” ones (er, but mine are not from Soulseek). I used to have a copy of that Incognito reissue EP- it was released in 1997 and was 4 songs- it was from a 1979 radio session so all were alternate versions (the original EP sounds better to my ears). The Incognito one was different versions of all 3 EP songs as well as one completely unreleased tune. The original EP version of “NCB” is so powerful and tough sounding– the guitar sound is to die for. One of my favorite UK punk stompers. I actually like the whole EP although “NCB” is the best for fucking sure. One more thing in my ramble– what’s up with the guy on the back of the sleeve who looks like he’s wearing a T-Rex circus tophat? LOL!!
Sais= English, cariad….= bus stop love. From your welsh consultant
Wow! What an awesome record. I have wanted to hear this for years…thanks.
nice one… finally i’m going to hear the original versions
thanks
At the time, we had no idea this was going on. Knew it from Peel, sure, but as far as the (English-language) punk scene in Swansea was concerned this might just as well’ve not existed. Pretty short-sighted, I know. And that Ail Symudiad once sold out the 2,000-capacity Top Rank in Swansea… who knew?
Steve, this may be academic to a Welsh person….but were there essentially 2 parallel punk scenes in Swansea dependent on language?
The English/Welsh language scenes were very definitely separate, certainly around our way. Maybe in North Wales things might’ve been different, I don’t know… but I doubt it.
Tony please post it since I bet you have some more valuable information to add plus that I love your rantings :). Yes, as all records posted here they’re ripped from original vinyl only(ok there’s some boots here too I think).
WOW iam loving this one keep it going..
Well, Welsh and English are both Indo-European languages so they are related though I would say distantly. Think of them as end leaves on big branches (Celtic > Welsh Vs. Germanic > English) of a giant tree. Finnish is part of the Uralic language family and not related to any of that other shit though I agree they sound similarly awkward and consonant heavy and make for good punk rock vocalizing.
What a wonky fuckin’ language, looks like Scandinavian Spanish.
Great record though, I love NCB.
I’m quite sure this is the first Welsh punk record I’ve heard and it sure is a great one as well. The vocals sounds like if a Spanish speaking person sung in Finnish with a very heavy Danish accent. Awesome
I actually think I prefer the song Cariad Y Bust Stop. I can’t see what’s not to like about it Peter?
A really great and weird experience to hear Welsh singing. The riffs are great, you gotta love Cariad Y Bus Stop.
Guitar tone came from an old yellow Kay fuzz pedal with a Carlsbro stingray amp head and 2×12 celestion cab and a columbus les paul and some sort of shergold guitar.
NCB riff is very similar to Hawkwinds Master of the Universe at the start and Cariad Y Bus Stop is similar in feel to SAHB’s Next.
Sais riff (tenuous)and Top Hat borrowed by Slash.
I heard it for first time for years last week and it aint to shoddy for a few 17 year olds in the seventies and it deserved the number one Record of the week given by Simon Frith in the Melody Maker at the time.
Big stuff for a Welsh band in those days!!
Shergold Masquerader. Shit it was….
Thank you for this service to humanity. NCBNCBNCB…..
Further services to humanity:
Roughly translated Cariad Y Bus Stop meant to be the adventures of Doris the Roadie and Bethan his bit of skirt.
Love in the Bus Stop!!!
Going with the boys to the Top Rank
Met Bethan better than a wank
Deep stuff I know but at leat it rhymed in English and Welsh, A mean feat I feel!!
The end of the song has the “I SNIFF CATS AND CATS SNIFF ME” section.
Mixed in with everyones name its a rousing chorus of what we used to do on Saturday nights in Llanelli!
Well close anyway. Hwyl fawr.
..there exists somewhere else on t’interweb, some text suggesting that Gary Melville got pissed off with the bands antics. Now THAT’s funny….
Well he only left the band driverless in the midle of Caernarvon cos he’d been a bit thirsty etc during a gig. It was a full band effort to get that van to a party in Bangor University as I recall the story. 4 driving and one stopping you strangling him as he dribbled in the back.
What antics!!!
Yes a masquerader. Nice if your in Genesis I feel.
Thirsty! He would have rattled. I do seem to recall the odd dig from ‘the restrainer’. Good party, though. Shame about that petrol station…..
I thought someone was an apprentice plumber and it was a repair???
Thanks for ripping this here to hear. I agree that there are those 2 tracks of fuckin’ attitude and then another song…Overall LF sounds really really nice down in Texas. I like rain.
Well it’s nice to chat Pete or it’s Doris communicating from the beyond. I just want to say one thing. SKIPPY!!! stil cracks me up when i think of it. That’s the most i’ve ever laughed in my life. Was all good fun
Hywel, you’re a lovely man, but, I couldn’t keep time, Gary fluked it, Dafydd couldn’t sing, (OK, you played pretty good), but the shining part is the drums. Twas a mess. Even taking time out of the eqaution. Good snapshot. But not that good. Me, not that proud. Good people though. And memories. Be happy. Pete.
My brother got a copy of this in 1980 when the headmaster confiscated if from a kid and threw it in the bin. My brother then stole it. Absolute classic.
I wish i had a copy
I had a thing with the guitarist on and off when I used to see them at Welsh language gigs. They seemed like nice blokes when I met them and I always had a good laff with them. They did drink a lot and he always seemed to have a drink on the go.
I saw them on TV a few times and remember he said they were really boozed up when they were on. Never actually saw them live.
So if you are ever on here H that’s for you X
And thats it see toooo much beer. I remember staying at a Birthday party for just 1 more beer never leaving until the end and missing some rock against racism gig we were booked for completely.
Socialist worker reps wanted to do us some damage after that i recall.
Glad we made you laugh though whoever you are cariad!!
You stud-muffin H. I believe the motto was something along the lines of “Too much beer? I’ve heard of that but I’ve never seen it done”.
Hello, Cariad.
Well I don’t remember anyone talking to us more than once because we usually took the piss out of them so much they never came back for more.
So well done Cariad.
I saw our replacement drummer last week or so the famous Richy Rick Zammit. He is moving back fromGlastonbury. I like him he was a good sport and always up for a laugh. And lest we forget he was a damn good drummer too.
I hope all is well with you.
I just got married again in the summer and it’s nice.
If we keep this up maybe they’ll make a soap out of it!!
Anyway, the kids in College are making Lygod Fyrnig T Shirts so you might see one should anyone wear them.
Hywel
