Funny story: Staffan Fagerberg drummer from Kurt i Kuvös(heard on Really Fast comps and the split with Headcleaners), Hux Flux, Crooks, Stajnas Lobos, fanzine maker and one of the guys behind Really Fast Records and little brother to Ola Fagerberg(bass in Kurt i Kuvös and Raped Teenagers) meets an american dude at work and they start chatting about punk rock. The american sez he played drums in an old american punk band: -Which band? -You´re probably never heard about them. Anyway we where called The Avengers. Of course he heard about The Avengers and the yankee was no other Danny Furious. Danny actually lives in my neighborhood here in Stockholm but ain´t got a clue how he looks or what his real name is nowadays.

Here´s the classic debut with the better looking crucifixion sleeve. How many where REALLY pressed? It shows up too often to be a press run of 500? Why did they change the sleeve for the second press?

Country: USA
Year: 1977
Label: Dangerhouse
Format: 7″
Songs:
We Are The One.mp3
I Believe In Me.mp3
Car Crash.mp3

    Total classic!

  2. justin says:

Where’s the nay-sayers now saying this place only has “2nd rate punk”? Fucking beautiful thanx for the rips Peter.

  3. Tom says:

I suspect his real name nowadays is the same as it was back in ’77: Dan O’Brien.

  4. Erich says:

C’mon, the other sleeve’s not that bad. Plus it’s on red vinyl :-)

  5. Erich says:

PS: It’s a 1000 (at least) press, Peter.

  6. Andrew says:

The last three sentences do not matter

  7. Jay Thurston says:

I think they changed the sleeve on the second press, because Jesus got mad. He didn’t like the fact that Penelope was imitating his pose. This is a classic record to say the least. That is a strange story about Danny living in Stockholm. It is a small world…

    • Tom says:

It’s been pretty well recorded that he has been living in Stockholm for years working as, I believe, a chef. I believe I remember reading he was unhappy that The Avengers tours occasionally as he was not asked to join and was willing to do so. I’ll have to look this up.

Again, for all Stockholm dwellers: Danny Furious = Dan O’Brien.

  8. Jay Thurston says:

Oops…I made a mistake, as usual. Whomever is hanging like Jesus(not Penelope), is the one that Jesus got really mad at…

  9. Peter says:

Together with WKTMS, this is classic female fronted American (in me) punk at its best! But you need the LP to get all songs, and you do need them all!

I think the second cover is a lot cooler!

  10. The Flakes // Drummer says:

The second press is nice looking too so I had to keep it. The LP has a couple of good tracks but to be honest it’s not a must have.

  11. Tom says:

    Peter,

This link (on pg. 2) has a fairly recent photo (prob. 2005, when the interview took place) of Danny, his take on Penelope and Greg today, the name of the restaurant where he works, etc. Good, if bitter, read.

    Try to find him!

  12. Kount Jizznack says:

It’s always interesting to see where people end up. I’ll have to visit Stockholm myself since I’ll be in Europe for awhile.

Anyways, this record is a deffinate classic as is pretty much most of the stuff on Dangerhouse. Good stuff indeed.

  13. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Thanks for all the input. Totally missed that it was common knowledge that Dan lives here. Anyway his real name is Daniel O’Brien not Dan or Danny that’s why I couldn’t find him first. Now I know he lives 3,3 km south from me.

  14. Peter G says:

Lätt en av de bästa punksjuorna som har gjorts!

  15. sir hake says:

thanx classic 77 real punk rock my e. i.v.b.

  16. The Flakes // Drummer says:

I want to hear some unreal punk rock.

  17. Niels says:

What’s that with old punk musicians and cooking? Greg Norton’s been a chef for a couple of years now, and last year when my band played the (Amsterdam) Milky Way the guy that cooked our food was Eric, ex-drummer for Die Kreuzen.

    • Jay Thurston says:

Die Kruezen ended up a real stupid band at the end…I would have moved to China and changed my name if I were in that shit band.

      • Chris g says:

really, i don’t think anyone knew that their music stopped being as cool after the first lp.
i just googled die kreuzen, read every blog on em, all the comments on youtube, comments on last.fm, user reviews at amazon.com, punk rock message boards, hardcore message boards, and no one seemed to know that
        you must have discovered something.
        something big.

        • Jay Thurston says:

It’s huge! I discovered that Die Kruezen sucked major ass after their first 7″. I would be embarrassed to even admit I was in that shit band…even though their psychadelic phase was real cute…

          • Vegetable Lasagna says:

No way! Their first album is a classic in my book. Incredible
drumming, leads, screams, etc. Ahead of it’s time IMO.

          • Chris g says:

good thing no one can tell who you are with your head in your butthole

  18. Kount Jizznack says:

The singer of the old Seattle punk band “Solger” is supposedly a chef at a restaurant somehwere in that city. Maybe I should find out where and go eat there when I eventually return to the U.S.

  19. Lanark26 says:

Greg Norton’s a helluva nice guy and a great cook. I worked with him at a restaurant about a dozen years ago. His place is in Red Wing, MN and called Norton’s imaginatively enough.

  20. Erich says:

Daryl from CITIZEN’S ARREST (now Funabraeum) is a chef too. t’s getting scary!

  21. Yaphet Kotto says:

Don’t forget Dante Ferrando’s “Food for Thought” restaurant in DC… (um, ok, it was his father’s restaurant, but still…). He played in Gray Matter.

  22. Jay Thurston says:

Let’s not forget Isaac Hayes…he was a chef on South Park!!

  23. SwePete says:

And Clas “Arne Skogsmus” Pettersson from 57 Kez used to be a Chef and restuarant owner(good one). Last thing I heard, he was working as an Chocolate taster in the U.S(no joke).

  24. sir hake says:

thank you so much kbd.sir hake son3

  25. Vegetable Lasagna says:

I was in a little band once and I cook my own dinner often.

  26. Kount Jizznack says:

The next time I start a band I’m going to cook nothing but cow brains and haggis.

  27. Urrke T says:

    Hey!
We covered the Avengers-song “American in me” with my band Midlife Crisis some years ago. Now I have a band with Danny as well. Called Plantfood! ;-) Check out our demos at http://www.myspace.com/plantfoodpunk It´s the first time Danny plays the drums in a band in a loooong time.
Ps. The guitarplayer in Plantfood also used to play in my Punkband FOSGEN, in Gävle back in 1982. And also Btw, We´re looking for one more Plantfood-guitarist ;) Cheers! // URRKE
