Watched a Siouxie and the Banshees documentary recently. Since Marco Pirroni was later in the Banshees(and Adam And The Ants) it was some stuff about his debut with The Models. Had to bring it home from my friend who’ve been keeping most of my records after my move. Sure Freeze isn’t bad but the hit is easily Man Of The Year. Slightly out of tune and sloppy. A step forward in 1977.

A side gets a C, but the B side is a solid A!
great! i like old punk as much as i like hc. thank you so much.
This is an absolute smasher!!! I never heard it before this…thanks!
Surprised you hadn’t heard it before Jay. I was expecting a big yawn from most of you.
I had only seen the record and never bought it…it is great.
Drummer Terry Day became Terry Lee Miall and joined The Ants also.
This one had slipped through the net for me… Agree the B side is terrific, love the sloppy opening riff and the false endings…
Classic brit-punk! One of the best.
great one. I have heard it before. Sounds like Lurkers
I agree, The B is The A or something…
great tune

A-side,”flipside”,whatever:
to me that´s a thing of its own to discuss about.
I guess everyone knows of 2-song 7″s where they prefer the “flipside” (2nd side) over the actual 1st side.
Some of my fave 2-song 7″s bear my favourite tune on its 2nd side (THE NOTHING,OPUS,Canada´s RED SQUARES come to mind).
So from now on, I ban the term “flipside” from my vocabulary, haha!
And this record belongs to the above-mentioned ones:
“Man Of The Year” is the real deal to me and such an under-rated record it is, isn`t it ?!
Btw,a bit of trivia (or “nerdism” in modern words):
the wise 45 REVOLUTIONS encyclopedia notes:
“demo/promo copies do exist w/ handwritten labels and only a few
copies have back ps WITHOUT “thumb-cut”
Anyone have/seen that variation?
Also anyone heard their 4-song PEEL-session (these two songs plus “Censorship” and “Brainwash”) ? That would be interesting to hear.
I am always sad because I lack Behjan’s earnest-ness (or knowledge), but I have taken Jay’s (admittedly small) manhood many times, but I still keep my Mark Trehus credentials in tact.
LEVI,
don´t be sad,I just take the opportunity & TRY to write comments hear.
You´ve reminded me that I have not one record from TREEHOUSE records-
did I miss anything substantial? (the PAGANS I have ,are on other label´s)
Btw,that word “flipside” is still banned from my vocabulary-just to let you all know of a super-important fact :) ? :( ?
Totally agree Peter, the fli… (sorry) is the winner here. My copy had its hole off-center (or maybe the hole was in the center but the grooves weren’t, who knows?), anyway, the record sounded sorta wobbly and out of tune until I made the center hole a little wider so I could move the record around a bit until it sounded right. Maybe your record has the same problem, in which case you should take a small file and… Oh, you have a life?
Now I am ever sadder, Behjan, because I only have the Pagans reissues. Nothing of note on Treehouse beside the Pagans 7″s unless you are a Venom P Stinger completist.
Last night I remember my girlfriend and I were having a hard time riding our skateboards home from the bar, but I didn’t know that I was that unhinged. I only fantasize about sleeping with Jay.
To skirt the “flipside” issue, I will just say both sides of this record are pretty great.
Levi, how you forget. You passed out at the bar and your girlfriend and I went to the motel. She even paid!!! It was your money, so I did not feel so bad. Tell her thanks and sorry I had to leave before she awoke, but, I had better things to do.
I am so sorry about talking that way about your “girlfriend”, Levi. It wasn’t really her, it was actually your mom…tell her, “I love her”…
I know “Levi Johnston,” his girlfriend and even his mom. Trust me, Mr. Thurston, tomorrow morning you better go to the free clinic. You’re in trouble.
In honor of the A-side, they can “freeze” off those warts but it’s that virus I’d be worried about.
The burning is terrible…I CAN’T PEE!!! Levi, your mom better pay for my doctor visit…
Oh a record I have. That means it’s not so rare. :) I like both sides.
3 dollars on Ebay.
ouch that was cheaper then i got it for.
Always a downer when one finds that out.
Hmmm, bought mine for 49p in 1977 at Cloud 7 records in St. Albans. Happy days.
You nazi bastard.
Thurston, what a prick.
One of the finest early punk singles. ‘Man of the Year’ is the superior song and it’s a shame that they never released anything more. They did do a session for John Peel and then Marco went onto greater sucess with Adam and the Ants.
Marco Pirroni nowadays have a quite good band called the WOLFMEN! Check ém out at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfU3wRIsuPI
Great song!
