Wish I experienced Kirk Brandon when he was in The Pack but it wasn’t until Theater Of Hate made it to my hometown Linkoping/Sweden in 1982 I felt his voice inside of me. Seldom have I experienced such a voice that made me physical exhausted. Totally unique. Theater Of Hate was more of post punk and the early stuff is really really great. After TOH he went on to Spear Of Destiny and there I lost all interest. But The Pack. Well known I know but still think they’re a little bit underrated and makes me post it. Hopefully some folks hear them for the first time and get a feel that it’s something they missed. The debut of theirs is a bit boring but this one and the Long Live The Past EP are must haves. I also have a live tape which unfortunately don’t have that great sound but I may post it anyway in the future. Listen to these two anthems which makes a great couple. The melancholic slower King Of Kings to the furious Pistolesque Number 12. Marvelous.

ICQ? No? Family life all day long ;)?
Natalie said she was afraid of dirty talk with you, haha.
Ha ha pussy.
Fucking pussy!!!
Sorry Jay. I can write “pussy” and get approved but not you apparently.
Just amazing!!
Huh….I want this 7″ Peter!!!!!!!!
Jim Walker from the first PiL line-up on drums!
Ha ha yeah I just read that in the 45 Revolutions book :). And Simon Werner on guitar who played with early D.O.A. and The Skulls.
Yeah, and Sid Vicious played bass!! He was in the Stinky Toys!! The Pack were an all star band…
It do pops up from time to time on eBay Lazlo. Don´t think it´s that expensive either. 45 Revolutions don´t sez anything about pressing numbers but there must be a couple of thousands since it´s on Rough Trade?
I think it is a couple of million!
thank you kbd i remember
Yeah, just checked this out. There’s a copy on ebay now. I’m gonna buy this. Thanks again Peter for this really amazing post!!
Glad you liked and that it was something you hadn’t heard before. What was the price for the one on eBay?
there are two buy-it-nows for less than $20
Hey Peter, $7.50 was the final price…:)
Yeah, wanted to buy it as upgrade copy, but somehow missed to place a final bid. 7.50$ or such a pearl ain’t that much, is it.
$4.99 is the starting price. Still no bid and 4 days left…:)
This is great.
I just got this a few months back for 10 bucks. Saw another copy in a local record store for 15, if anybody is looking for it still.
Hey Matt. I want that 7″. Could you please tell me the details?
Thanks!
Hey sorry, checked it’s gone. Possibly due to this post.
Thanks for this great post. Have a listen to the brilliant ”Long live the past“ EP as well… Recorded 1978.
The Pack had its’ network with other similar London Bands from that time like The Wall, The Straps and Crisis – all bands shared members during the times…
And all had this special dark and ”serious” Punk sound… I wish more bands would sound like this today! Just the The Spectres come to mind!
thanks and good bye
tim
If I could name the top 3 singles that Kirk Brandon ever released this one would be at the top of the list.
Second would be ‘Original Sin’ – Theatre of Hate
Third would be ‘Liberator’ – Spear of Destiny
It’s a classic. Hadn’t heard it for years so a big thanks for posting it.
just picked this up
my copy has black labels on both sides in stead of the red on white with A1 on the inner groove..it’s a top single from a top outfit..had the red label issue years ago, anyone got an idea what came first as only ever seen the red label before..
Awesome stuff, and new to me. Totally dig it.
Post some of that Theater of Hate stuff, too, please. Your waxing on has made me yearn to hear it. Never heard them before, either.
Simon Werner, his brother John & former PIL drummer Jim Walker all played for The Straps when The Pack split in 1980. The UK Subs, The Pack & The Straps played lots of gigs around South London on the same bill in 1978. We recorded 2 singles & 1 album in 1980 & 1982 with all 3 former Pack members on the recordings. These can be found on Ebay as well as “The Straps Punk Collection” released on Captain Oi records.
We toured the UK with The Damned in 1980 on the Black Album Tour & regulary pulled big crowds in London while headlining some big name venues.
Cheers Dave
King of kings is the ultimate punk hymn for me. Thanx posting it.
