Ramones – Do You Wanna Dance?/It’s A Long Way Back To Germany 7″

It’s not that I’m running out of lesser known records. It’s just that I want to remind myself that most of the really great punk bands are the big ones. Like Ramones. And if I can post a known band with a rare sleeve version I’ll do it. What the fuck? It’s a rare DUTCH sleeve version. Again. To be certain I’m awaiting some comments that can confirm that this is the more rare dutch sleeve. One of my better finds. Payed $5.00 and seen it go for as high as $475. I wasn’t that fond of Ramones in the 70’s and the main reason was that all of my neighborhood didn’t like any other punk band except the Ramones. I thought that was silly when there was so many bands that I though was MUCH better like Pistols, Clash, Generation X, Vibrators etc. During the years I’ve come to love them more and more. The first punk band who released the first punk album and single. That’s how I see my punk history. Touring the UK in the summer of 1976 and gave fuel to the whole punk explosion. They need to be credited no doubt. Still, after Rocket To Russia they should’ve called it a day.

I think I saw this go for 2000 kr on Tradera a couple of years ago. But I’m not sure. But I’m 100 % sure that Ramones are one of the most important bands ever so this is a nice post, Peter. What about the press on this one? Is it dutch?

  2. Erich says:

Great to see the dutch sleeve variation finally!

  3. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Thanks guys. So this leads me in the direction that it might be the rare dutch sleeve.

  4. tlob says:

Their albums have be reissued multiple times, but I still miss a Complete Singles collection.

  5. Ian says:

For the collector nerds out there the sleeve pictured here is the Dutch version, goes for some serious coin in excellent condition. The Belgian one is the monster though, the rarest Ramones non UK sleeve !!
    Cheers, I.M.

  6. proving that it dosent have to be obscure to be good, this stuff is timeless.

  7. fred says:

Look for “Judy’s In The Basement” full 14 song 1975 demos

  8. Johan says:

I don’t see any Dutch sleeves on the scans. Seems they are sporting sleeveless shirts or typcial US leather jackets.

  9. zach says:

    i can’t stand the ramones.

  10. GRA says:

What kind of idiot doesn’t like the Ramones?

  11. Laszlo says:

Dutch sleeve or not….it’s fuckin’ BRILLIANT! Thanks Peter.

  12. Dom Moniker says:

Aww, poor Zach. He must be deaf or tone deaf. If you don’t like the Ramones, you don’t like Rock & Roll…

And I disagree about that last line there, “Still, after Leave Home they should’ve called it a day”. If you listen to all of their albums, and if you’re open-minded enough, you’ll find 4/14 really embarrassing (Brain Drain, Halfway to Sanity, Mondo Bizarro, ¡Adios Amigos!), but sometimes tolerable and still decently good, with songs like “Pet Sematary”, “I Wanna Live”, “Poison Heart”, “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up” and a lot more great songs too. I say 30% of the songs on these few albums are really good, 50% are okay/boring/aren’t that catchy, and 20% are so bad that they’re funny. 5 or 6 outta 14 albums (End of the Century, the next four, and Acid Eaters) are really really good and 4 or 5 outta 14 are fucking phenomenal (Ramones, Leave Home, Rocket to Russia, Road to Ruin, and the fifth one I think is a tie between Subterranean Jungle and Pleasant Dreams with Too Tough to Die and E.o.t.C in 2nd place.

    • Dom Moniker says:

But it’s not about the albums – that’s not why the Ramones were so fucking amazing – hell most people don’t even bother getting much albums ‘cos they think “fuck it, they all sound the same, fuck getting the first three or four, I’ll just get the first one” because after all, the first one is the one that literally defines the Ramones best. Their sound, their image, their name and title, why they “were so fucking amazing” I guess, what they stood for (FUN and having a good time), why they were important (for doing what they did; revive that spirit of simply structured Rock & Roll songs and help more teenagers at that time realise that all the (mainstream) music at the time was absolute shit (most of the punks and teenagers actually did already know that and were bored with their lives, as well, so they followed in the footsteps of Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy.

You’re absolutely right about respecting the greats and never forgetting why they matter(ed). Long live Ramones and all the other greats.

  13. Erich says:

Some Ramones songs are okay and the live album has a lot of power. But all in all, I could imagine to live happily in a Ramones-free world.

  14. bunitedfc says:

    the fathers of punk!

  15. adam harmless says:

If the Ramones had called it quits after “Leave Home”, you wouldn’t have that single.

  16. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Ha ha TRUE LOL :D!! I meant Rocket To Russia!

  17. The Flakes // Drummer says:

I always think about Leave Home as their third cause I bought Rocket To Russia before Leave Home. Stupid me.

  18. tlob says:

Why should they’ve quit in 1977? They were great live until the end. And albums like End Of The Century and Too Tough is really good.

  19. The Flakes // Drummer says:

No they should´ve quit in 1978. End of the Century is bland. Too Tough has some good tracks but then again why?

  20. tlob says:

They were still great live. I think a lot of kids would missed out if they’d quit in 78….

  21. The Flakes // Drummer says:

tlob, it´s just my opinions. Don´t take em too seriously. It´s not the law or the truth I´m speaking.

  22. elliott says:

yeah never liked the ramones. no political message. and that’s not even the real reason. it’s because every time i want to like them i think of all the radio stations playing them and the green day fags listening to them. and the singer! i mean the first album has a good mix but it’s just to damn poppy. hell i’d rather listen to some bad hard rock like ac/dc (sorry never a fan) than this. at least i’m not the only one who thinks they suck.

    • Johnny says:

If your stupid young ass would have been alive in 1976, you’d have thought that the Ramones was too noisy for you. They may sound poppy to your young moronic ears but the Ramones are still great raunchy catchy punk rock. Catchy music doesn’t always mean poppy. The Ramones original Ramones were all interesting and genuine people. Four great mutants who played raw, basic, exciting and original music probably when you weren’t even born. These guys were true originals and the music they created was totally new and ferocious back then. Sadly young kids are nowadays too ignorant to understand that and too stupid to put things in context.

Now go back to your shitty blog and upload some crap from your mp3 collection that you all found on the internet. You’re an ignorant fool.

    • Johnny says:

Also, you may not like them which is fine, but saying they sucks just shows you’re a true idiot.

    • Johnny says:

One last thing. All your post on here are always worthless and boring. You’re not an overly opiniated kid, you’re just a loudmouth with nothing to say. I’m done now.

    • VengiRamone says:

well, ignorant retard with nothing smart to say
ramones are the godfathers of punk and they should be credited for that. and acdc is not bad hard rock. it’s kick ass. and green day are not fags. just their last two records were shitty as hell.

  23. elliott says:

so now i can’t have an opinion that doesn’t agree with yours? interesting. look i’m all for old punk and i actually 1like stuff a lot taimer than this but i just don’t like this. is that ok with you? can i not like something? and hahahahaha i’m a loudmouth? people have said that. look i respect people’s right to like whatever music they want but i don’t like it when you say you don’t like something every’s after you.

  24. Schweinejunge says:

I love “Road to ruin”. At least you find their best song on it: I’m against it

  25. nurulafni says:
