R.I.P. – Malcom McLaren

Another one bites the dust:
Also in 1975 he began to manage the fledgling punk band The Strand. After his assistant Bernie Rhodes had brought in John Lydon, whom he had encountered hanging around outside sporting green hair and a Pink Floyd T-shirt with the words “I Hate” daubed across it, Lydon became Johnny Rotten and the band The Sex Pistols.

Great cynical asshole, rest in riot.

  3. Mike says:

Even though I’m young, its a really sad feeling when a figure in punk dies. Rest in peace Malcom

  4. Jay Thurston says:

Sad…I thought he died years ago. Oh well…at least I won’t have to mourn his death again.

  5. RAYMOND S. says:

I agree with Jay…No need to Flog a Dead Horse!

  6. o.f.moro@nsoft.it says:

The swindler is dead… who fuckin’ cares? Totally agree with Jay and Raymonds.

  7. chano says:

  9. The Flakes // Drummer says:

I care Chano. I loved to hate Malcom MacLaren. A genius. No matter what you think his importance can’t be underestimated. Fact.

  10. MAFFISH says:

Wasn’t he responsible for Dexy’s Midnight Runners also?

  11. JohanMalm says:

Why do you post stuff about a dead formula 1 driver?

  12. nazz nomad says:

oh, bollacks… he’s hiding in Africa with Elvis, Jim Morrison and Tupac!

  13. GraemeSTL says:

Well, Hitler was a big figure in German politics but are most Germans sad that he’s dead? Anyway, Malcolm was harmless enough but John Lydon and countless others across the globe already had the punk attitude so punk would have exploded into life with or without Malcolm. Without him and his clothes shops punk may have even had a more individual style. Who knows? Nice of him to try to take all the glory, but at least he was entertaining in his little drama queen moments.

    • Ian says:

Yes, thats a good comparison, because McLaren was just like Hitler. Adolf, too, was harmless enough but at least entertaining.

      You idiot.

      • GraemeSTL says:

Ooh, abuse, lovely. I was making no such comparison, of course. I was merely illustrating that a ‘big figure’ in punk does not necessarily mean a worthy representative. Of course using the ‘H’ word for any reason sends people into a frenzy. If I was makinga comparison, then I would have compared him to what Crusty The Clown is to America. Discuss.

  14. Clinton Chapman says:

“They’re arresting Malcolm. They’re arresting Malcolm.”

  15. fernando says:

Thanks for the post Flakes Drummer! “All the spikey punkers / believers in the ruins / with one big shout they’ll all cry out / hey, who killed Bambi, mmm?” Ciao Malc!

  16. crazydude1992 says:

On a different note, I’ve noticed a Dying Fetus ad here…

  17. Brian C. says:

Don’t forget he dressed the Dolls in Red Leather. Don’t forget Bow Wow Wow either.

He was the British Kim Fowley, I guess. A short, ginger, British Kim Fowley who liked clothes and bondage gear more than urine stained teen pussy.

  18. Gnash says:

He was a swindler and a liar. He took credit for things that he was’nt responsible for and never had a single idea of his own. But Punk would not be the same without him a true svengali if there ever was one.

  19. David says:

How sad. He did a lot for music in the late 70’s and 80’s IMHO. R.I.P. Malcolm.

    • The Flakes // Drummer says:

Hey David, just took a listen to Jetsonz. You should release the studio stuff. REALLY good!
