VOM – Live At Surf City E.P. 7″

Gotten lots of request for VOM. And whom I to not please my audience? As most of you know VOM was Saunders and Turners band before they pulled out one of Americas hardest cocks: Angry Samoans. Who gets high rates in my book for getting banned by the LA/Hollywood scene in the early 80´s. It´s not hard to hear it´s pre-Angry Samoans in tracks like Electrocute Your Cock and the killer Punkmobile with quite arcetypical quirky AS chorus. Top notch! Well every track is a winner, really. Later re-issued or booted(?).

As a bonus you´ll get some really, really, REALLY great VOM videos found in the postponed documentary about Angry Samoans. I have it and it´s worth looking for. Pst! Google.

  4. fred says:

Keep an eye out for the Vom Live at Mabuhay Gardens 1978 tape that is floating around, it has loads of tunes not on the EP. Some of these Vom EP tunes showed up remixed on some kind of a soundtrack album last year or so, but I cannot find it or google it, dang.

you’ve lost an occasion to write a few words about Richard Meltzer. it was his band as well. one of the greatest rock’n'roll writers. Vom are great, Angry Samoans are great. Metal Mike is great.

    • The Flakes // Drummer says:

Didn´t have a clue of who Richard Meltzer was. So thanks to you I looked him up on Wikipedia. So you see how important your comments are!

  6. Artifix Greg says:

Richard Meltzer is a great guy. Also Ronn Spencer, who owned White Noize Records who released this record and the AVENGERS 12″. Some trivia: the reissue was legitimate and not a bootleg. I know because Artifix was asking about reissuing it and was told by Spencer that the other label (who I forget) got his permission first. Second: the ANGRY SAMOANS documentary was NOT postponed. It was released on video tape by Triple X Records, but an original copy is probably tough to obtain now.

  7. chano says:

i have a bootleg copy, your rips sounds 100 times better!! Thanx for this!

  8. toki wartooth says:

This is great stuffs, I loves it!!

  9. it was totally Meltzer’s band. his idea, his name (VOM), and he called all the shots down to the set list and its sequencing.

the unmixed tracks for the Surf City ep were really strong sounding, but the mix was haywire/bad. and meltzer’s seriously great “scratch” vocals singing along with the live backing tracks were replaced by far more labored/affected overdubbed vocals.

ehhhh that’s what happens when Bob Rock’s not around to explain to the Modernettes how the nuances of the recording process works. (john armstrong: “the Little Mountain Sound’s master-volume-on-back 60′s Marshall 100W head they loaned me was SO loud, when i stood 15 feet away my pants legs still ruffled.”

  10. i’m ted nugent. i know these things.

  11. punk rock is bad and it will make you masterbate uncontrollably. and the guitar solos are TOO FUCKING SHORT.

  12. Ted Nugent's sister's cousins neighbor says:

Punk rock has too many bad words and them darn punks never shoot nothin’

  13. The Flakes // Drummer says:

Thanks Teds dad. Didn’t knew Meltzer was the main man in VOM. Shame on me.

  14. Tim says:

    Hippies!

  15. bonze blayk says:

Most peculiar it is, to find that the vidcap for “Electrocute Your Cock” is… my back.

    Yours in Hydroplexia Nervosa,
    bonze

  16. dewey.decimal says:

    fucking horrible and hilarious and……AWESOME!

  17. Martin says:

Totally sloppy and hilarious. Totally missed out on this band before.
Thanks a lot for enlightening me.

  18. Gay Thurston says:

“Electrocute Your Cock” reminds me that Martin said he would post the Quiet Men’s “Cement Your Cunt” demos. Did he die?

  19. Chano is my bitch says:

Martin left us last month…he has now converted to the church of heavy metal….

  20. Peter needs to post another record says:

We need a new record…oh, that’s right. I don’t really care…I have only two sites I visit now. See ya.

Some of these song are included on a cd called “The Completed Soundtrack For The Tropic Of Nipples. You can get the cd pretty cheap on Amazon. The Vom tracks on the disc include: Eletrocute Your Cock, Too Animalistic, PunkMobile, God Save The Whales(Live at Rhino December 1977), I’m In Love With Your MOM, and a rough demo called I Live With The Roaches. Meltzer also reads some poems which are backed by strange noises. Overall some pretty wierd and cool stuff. I hope this has helped.

  22. Ronn Spencer says:

“Live at Surf City” will be re-released with the original picture sleeve and label by the end of the year.
