Readymades – Supergirl/Electric Toys/Terry Is My Space Cadet E.P. 7″

A nice little record with Supergirl being the standout track coupled with Electric Toys though I wish all the tracks where as hectic and quirky as Supergirl. But why do I complain when Electric Toys is such a sweet punk/powerpop ditty that I just jump with joy as soon as the chorus roles in. Hailing from San Francisco and produced by no other the Mr. Novak. PS. Skip the Terry is my space Cadet DS.

Is it me, but this reminds me of the Maids Back to Bataan.

Marcel (Duchamp) knows what his ready-made progenitors were doing, capturing the sound of San Francisco circa ’79. While I used to stomp him at chess, what really irked the Frenchman was all the women I scored simply because I chopped my pubic hair to match the mop on Hugo Ball’s head.

“Supergirl” is a catchy classic, and although (and of course) it lacks the inimitable guitar rumble of the Maids, it seems from the same mold. Another great post.

How do you download these songs?

    • The Flakes // Drummer says:

Right click on the song titles and choose Save as…Works?

      • Feed says:

Thanks, it worked, but now it’s not letting me upload to my ipod because it’s a podcast. Do you know if i can change this to be compatible?

        • The Flakes // Drummer says:

I think you have to google and read a little about how to download and work with mp3 songs. It shouldn’t be complicated:1. right click and Save As… into a map of your choice. 2. Add the mp3 to your iTunes music library or whatever software you use to play mp3 files. 3. Sync it with your iPod.

The mp3 file itself is not a podcast.

I played guitar on this record and I always felt Morey, the pianist, mixed himself too loud. I had fun with the double tracking and wah-wah, but it should have been a balls-to-the-wall guitar rocker! Now Morey’s dead, so who cares about some mix of an indy record that sold maybe 500 copies 34 years ago. I guess I cared enough to post…

I was fortunate to have seen the Readymades perform dozens of times, most of the time at the Mabuhay Gardens. As glad as I am that something was recorded, to me, the 45 single and the 415 record recordings did not justify the bands music the way it sounded live or the way I though it could have been produced (not uncommon). The energy that came from the stage and speakers was awesome, much more powerful then the recordings. With that being said “Terry Is My Space Cadet” to this day is still one of my all time favorite songs. My recordings of the band are gone (cassette tapes only last so long). This is the first time I’ve heard “Terry Is My Space Cadet” in many years. listening to it brings me back to many winter, rainy nights watching the band until 2:00am, then it was time to go home.
