Talk about an underrated band. The Table with their absolutely amazing debut Do the standing still 7inch. And here’s the even better or equally great, I have a hard time to choose, Sex Cells. Especially Sex Cells is a quirky punk master piece. While not rare it deservs it’s place on this very blog cause, you guessed it, I find it higly underrated. Go on and show you praise in the comment section. And, again, what happened to The Tables after this? Did they become The Chairs?

Interesting. Think this is a case for Steve/Low Down Kids.
Or I might just check the 45 Revolutions book when I get home.
In theory, there are two labels – a ‘red’ one, and a ‘blue’ one – but there are also copies with misprinted (blue?) labels, like that one on eBay.
I love Chiswick – it’s a great label for anyone who’s up for a collector-challenge: loads of sleeve and label variations, DJ-edits identifiable only by the matrix etc…
Thanks for the info Steve :).
yes thank you!
I too have never seen this with ps. A great, totally underrated Chiswick release. Glad you posted it and reminded me of it.
My pleasure :).
talked about this on another blog but can’t remember where…adding to the mystery is that such an obscure band with so few releases would get this extensive a write-up in Allmusic:
http://www.allmusic.com/artist/the-table-p481296/biography
Both records are great, of the 4 songs I know, I think Sex Cells is my favorite, and it’s b-side my least favorite.
Thanks for the link Dan. Fun read and makes me like them even more.
Thanks for posting this. I listened to it 23 years ago in Macclesfield but the store wanted 5 Pounds and the sleeve was trashed. Have been looking for it since but could only remember “Sex Sells” from the cover, which is obviously wrong. No wonder I bought two other records on spec just to find out they weren’t it. The “better” kind of Punk Rock from the UK.
On a different note, has anybody written an obituary for Behjan? I was unable to find one.
Hi Dirk! No I haven´t written anything about Behjan yet. I don´t really know what to say except it´s a big loss though I only knew him through the postings he made here. He was an incredible expert all things regarding obscure punk rock.
Great single, shame the didnt make one more,!
Sex Cells, great tune. Godley and Creme meets Wire???
great punk in 78 first post punk waves do the standing still.thank you kbd and good new year.
This is great I never heard it before I love “do the standing still” but never thought that they released anything else. Thanks for sharing.
Chiswick labels in black and blue are re-pressings.
