The Plugz – Achin 7″

Plugz second 7inch where released sleeveless in 1979 and then with this white version in 1981 and later on with a yellowish variant. I might be wrong so feel free to correct me. Achin is to my ears the best song The Plugz ever recorded. A total masterpiece from start to finish with top notch production. So wish they could’ve made it sound like this on the Electrify Me LP which has load of great songs but a production that don’t make them justice I think. La Bamba might be fun if you droll over punky remakes of classic songs that just suck in the first place. Sleeve made by Gary Panter who’s more famous for The Screamers screaming face logo. Yeah well you knew that. Tada.

Panter also designed one of the Boingo alive covers(right here: and won an emmy for designing Pee Wee’s Playhouse!
    And of course, there’s Jimbo:

Yes, yes, I’m an art dork.

Yeah, “Achin'” is really really great.

Third 7″? There was the “Move” single and this one. What was the other?

  9. “Achin” is my favorite Plugz song- they had so many great ones. What I desperately need is the alternate B-side of this 7″ called “Strange Love”. Only about 50 copies were issued- ouch!

Released sleveless in 79? Never heard of that. Seems unlikely, too. As you said, this 7″ sounds so much better than ‘Electrify Me’, let’s say like two years later in a different studio. Oh yeah, you find ‘Achin’ also on the 2nd LP from 81. And for ‘La Bamba’, obviously it’s a two years later (more mature) version than the one on the 79 LP. However, such a great 7″ by a great band!
