Curtiss A – I Don’t Wanna Be President/Land Of The Free 7″

Totally killer 7inch from Twin/Tone. The label that should’ve signed Husker Du. Why nobody has told me about this record before is a mystery to me. It’s easy to find and cheap so do yourself a favour and get a copy before it vanish from earth. I googled a bit at it seems Curtiss has been around since the end of the 60s. Ain’t got a clue how his other records sounds like but if it’s as good as this I have to find ’em.

have most of his recorded output, as well as some live material . . . you owe it to yourself to give this underrated local twin cities man a listen. let me know if you want me to post you a sampler

  3. Lefty says:

    Damn, that was tasty.

  4. Martin says:

So good, bought myself a copy just hours before you posted it here. Thanks a lot for introducing me to it! A total hit!

  5. Chano says:

This is very cool! Especially the A side smokes. The B side has a bit too much rock influence but it’s saved by the sandpaper vocals and shredding guitars. This is a record that intrigued me from the first time i saw it listed on Henry Weld’s international discography of the american new wave and now, thanks to my beloved KBD blog, i finally got to hear it. The back (or is it front?) cover is freakin’ hilarious! Thanks a lot, Pete & Martin. This blog is a true labor of love and deserves all the support we’re able to give. A happy and untroubled new year!! :-)

  6. Nice choice here! Chuck Warner had it on Minnesota had lots of nice gems back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Er, just so you know you misspelled the band name in the title- you have it as “Cutriss A” instead of “Curtiss A”…

  7. Whoops, I hit “Post Comment” too soon- what I meant to say in the incomplete sentence above is that Chuck Warner put “I Don’t Want To Be President” on one of his old Hyped2Death CD-R’s back in the early 2000’s (Volume 51 or 61?) which was a good choice and helped unearth it from obscurity.

There is *also* a D.O.A from Vancouver Canada :-)

He also released the 1980-1990 E.P. with The Spooks before this 7″. As well as a couple tracks off the Big Hits of Mid America Vol III. I have them over at my site. Not sure if the links still work though. Let me know if they need a Re-up.
