Genetic Control – S/T E.P. 7″

I know this EP isn’t perfect. If they only had left out Urban Cowboy and replaced it with their best track Suburban Life found on the Primitive Air-Raid comp… Still a classic and the rest of the three songs are damned great. Considering it’s a 500 press it’s incredible hard to get. Any Canadians got some info on why?

Country: Canada

Love Rat.mp3

Lots of people here in Montreal consider this EP to be overrated. Talked to several record store owners and people who were around when GC was active. They said even when it was released it was hard to get their hands on. Another store owner mentioned being at their gigs, and refusing to buy a couple as he “didn’t like them” at the time.

I guess the selling point of this 7″ is the rarity and the drumming style done by the same guy who drums on the UNRULED 7″. He was more into prog rock and stuff.

Not on the top of my favorite Canadian releases, that’s for sure. I find it kind of goofy.
Apparently someone in UNRULED is trying to organize a gig with S.C.U.M., Genetic control and UNRULED themselves.

To me this record belongs to the “the more i listen to it, the less i like it” category. I mean: it’s not bad but it sounds kind of generic in several occasions and it seems to lose something at every new spin. Thanx for taking the time to share! :)

The sleeve is really cool IMO, but if they had a punkier font it would just be boring, so they did a good job on that one. The music is OK, not really something that sticks like gum to shoes on a hot day, but I like the production. Really clean and tight.
The price and rarery though don’t match the music at all.

Wow, picky crew amongst the KBD peanut gallery! I think Peter has it right–Urban Cowboy is a stinker–but the rest of the e.p. is really good, and ‘1984’ is great. The rips are also really good, Peter, and I, for one, envy that you have this because I don’t.

  5. So I’ve changed my mind a little bit on this one since it was posted. 1984 is really a great piece of hardcore, which makes the rest of the EP better as well for me. And the drummer is really really good!
