Shit Kids – S/T E.P. 7″

This is the legendary first release from Sweden’s Shit Kids (formely known as Ballycock Mofas and the Great Lake Hemoroids), and despite not being 100% punk perfection, the band never came closer than they did on this release. Kottmarknad and Froso sjukhus 1984 are both real corkers, and at least I really like the long and slow  Jag maste ha ett jobb. The last song Ann-Christin is a pisstake, but if you understand Swedish the lyrics are pretty funny. It’s about a guy who falls in love with the new girl in school, asks her out, dances all night and then later that night in bed realise that she’s actually a he. Lucky guy.

This is one of those records that tops the lists over the most sought after Swedish punk records, but I don’t really know why it’s so damn hard to find. It was pressed in 1000 copies according to the band members, and all copies was sold out in no time (mainly) locally, and after that the copies more or less vanished from earth and just don’t pop up for sale. Having said that, there’s actually been a handful of copies for sale the last year or so, but before that I think I’ve seen 2-3 copies for the last 10-15 years or so.

The band’s second E.P. is actually not as bad as rumours might say. Sure the songs are longer, more well played and slicker production, but the songs are still good. If you want the band at their most chaotic phrase though, this is the record you want, despite the fact that the band had no drummer when it was time to record, so they borrowed a local dansband’s drummer! Not easy to hear…

  1. The wonderful shit rock of “Jag maste ha ett job” still amazes me after all these years! Ever since I first heard it on KBD#51 way back when…

  2. LOL! Whoops, I meant that the “Froso” song is the wonderful shit rock one! My bad…

My opinion: “Froso….” is the only decent song here. The rest is…. Well, let’s just say nondescript. Thanks for taking the time anyway as this is new to me, :-)

Actually its only 502 copies including testpresses. Just to get things right.

Interesting, and thanks for the update. A few of your former band mates was sounded very sure on the 1000 copies pressing when I talked to them a few years ago.
