The Zeros - Hungry 7″

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

zeros_hungry.jpgFirst release from UKs The Zeros. Haven’t heard their other two following this. The last beeing a split with Action Replay. Considering how great this is I’m very curious.

This was the time that when a band had a song title that included the word “radio” in some form you knew it’s going to be great. Stompy punk rock with a nod to Mod.

Raw Deal! Comp. LP 12″

Friday, July 21st, 2006

rawdeal.jpgThe first and classic compilation released by Lee Woods RAW Records. Contrary to what you might believe there aren’t too many great tracks on it. You get the top of the cream and if you crawe it all then check out Damage Goods Records reissue of this.

Check out a very interesting interview with Lee over at punk77.co.uk: “I loved to help bands, so just about every Sunday I had a band in Spaceward studio. When it became clear we couldn’t release them all I had the idea for the Raw Deal album.“. Best track: Psycho’s Soul Train.

From the back of the sleeve: “Dedicated to all small labels, who are in it for the fun and glory-not just for the money.”.

Country: UK
Year: 1977
Label: RAW
Format: 12″

Lockjaw - Radio Call Sign 7″

Monday, July 17th, 2006

lockjaw.jpgGreat one sided punk rock 7inch from the RAW label. You’re telling me there’s another track on this? Ok it is. But why?? A cover that totaly blows and should be erased from punk history. Here’s the first step in doing so. Lockjaw released one more 7inch called Journalist Jive that is a pretty tuff one to get hold of. “Band featured Simon Gallup, later to go on and join The Cure.

The Nosebleeds - Ain’t Been To No Music School 7″

Monday, July 17th, 2006

nosebleeds.jpgThis is a classic! Enough said. Over to Punk77.co.uk: “Ok so why all the fuss over a band that released one single. Simple. Like the Killjoys and Users there’s more to the story than just a song. Edmund Garrity AKA Ed Banger’s story criss crosses through vital moments in punk that makes it impossible to ignore and at times so improbable that a film script could or should be made.”. Morrisey who later found fame as a solo artist and in The Smiths sang for Nosebleeds after Ed banger left. Morrisey should’ve stuck to punk rock.

The Users - I’m Sick Of You 7″

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

users_sick.jpgWe at the KBD HQ love the Spaceward sound and here’s another fine example for your ears. Is there anyone who know anything more about Spaceward? Channels? How did they came up with the raw production? Was it Iggys Raw Power that was the moto? I want to know it all! This is The Users first 7inch and it’s a bit better then their second one posted before.

The band had only done two gigs when the first single Sick Of You / In Love With Today was released mid ‘77 but what a cracker. By early ‘78 they had still only done 11 gigs, two of them still held day jobs and they still had no equipment.“.

All you nostalgic old punks shall listen carefully to the lyrics to I’m In Love With Today! And if you don’t pay attention the only thing I’ve got to tell you is I’M SICK OF YOU!!!

The Wasps - Teenage Treats 7″

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

wasps.jpgThe title gave name to a famous series of compilations. And what a song it is! The b-side is great as well. The only complaint I have is that Jesse Lynn-Dean try to imitate those typical Rotten “r”s. But he gets away with it and especially after reading this: from 3RD Generations interview with Jesse in 2004:”Being over the teenage age, how do you view teenagers now? I don’t feel any different now as I did then. I think being a teenager is a licence to express yourself any way you feel and if you piss a lot of people off you are probably on the right track.“.

Head over to The Wasps page over at Punk 77.co.uk to get some snipets of their story. And DON’T miss the link to the press clips with Jesses war aginst the journalists review of the Vortex live LP. Anyone heard the “Punkcryonics” CD?

Black Randy & The Metro Squad - Trouble… E.P. 7″

Monday, May 29th, 2006

blackrandy_cup.jpgIf you haven’t read “We Got The Neutron Bomb” yet you have too! All these crazy storys about Black Randy is priceless. One of his party tricks was to take a dump in the girls purses. When they went into the toilet there sometimes where some of them screaming as they where combing their hair(taken from the purse of course) and seconds later found out they’ve got pooped. The Metro Squad included K.K. from The Screamers and John Doe from X among others. Easilly an underrated artist among the Dangerhouse bands. Highlight: Loner With A Boner
Country: USA
Year: 1977
Label: Dangerhouse
Format: 7″
