The Soft Boys – (I Want To Be An) Anglepoise Lamp 7″

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

If both sides of this phenomenal record by a band that don´t need any introduction doesn´t make you cum in your pants/skirts I don´t know what´s wrong. On side-a Robyns powerpop genius shine brighter than ever before or after, and on the flip side Syd Barret lends his soul to Mr. Hitchcock. to crank out a LSD punk trip supervised by Captain Beefheart.

VOM – Live At Surf City E.P. 7″

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Gotten lots of request for VOM. And whom I to not please my audience? As most of you know VOM was Saunders and Turners band before they pulled out one of Americas hardest cocks: Angry Samoans. Who gets high rates in my book for getting banned by the LA/Hollywood scene in the early 80´s. It´s not hard to hear it´s pre-Angry Samoans in tracks like Electrocute Your Cock and the killer Punkmobile with quite arcetypical quirky AS chorus. Top notch! Well every track is a winner, really. Later re-issued or booted(?).

As a bonus you´ll get some really, really, REALLY great VOM videos found in the postponed documentary about Angry Samoans. I have it and it´s worth looking for. Pst! Google.

The Deadbeats – Kill The Hippies E.P. 7″

Friday, May 7th, 2010

This was the first record I was supposed to post when we opened up the blog. But after doing some googling I found out it had been posted here and there. And it’s still gets posted here http://www.lastdaysofmanonearth.com/blog/?p=5 and there http://www.goodbadmusic.com/2008/04/13/deadbeats-kill-the-hippies-7ep-dangerhouse-records-usa-1978/ but you know it’s one of those records that’s NEEDS to be posted everywhere and as far as I know it’s only here you now get the WHOLE package. It’s been living with me since 1979 and will be one of the last records that will leave my home if ever as long as I may live. Kill The Hippies, with it’s supposedly anti hippie statement but it’s actually a rather clever remark on punks intolerance level and as I noticed now Joe from LastDaysofMan made a remark about in the comment section over at GoodBad: “kill em cuz ya need a scapegoat” ha ha. Kill the Hippies is the hit but I prefer Brainless and Deadbeat cause they’re so far from your typical straight forward punk song. And by the way who in the band sez in the end of Deadbeat: “I never wanna do that song again.”? It’s just incredible how timeless this record is and if you get the chance you must pick up their Live at the Whisky 1978 CD which has a live set plus a demo recording of one their best songs: The year 2000 will turn out okay. I so wish someone could dig out everything this genius band did and release it on vinyl. All hail The Deadbeats from now on and forever, one the best bands to ever walked the earth.

The Vibrators – Automatic Lover 7″

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

I want to post something but not in the mood for writing. So why not post yet another big punk band with a sleeve variation? It’s the italian version of the already fantastic looking UK sleeve. Or is this the rarer DUTCH sleeve agin???????? Automatic Lover…one of my top punk/powerpop songs of all time. Destroy is a goosely goose bump of a song too. Both tracks lifted off their second and best fullength V2. The LP that made me start my solo band in 1990. Of course it wasn’t as good as Vibrators ha ha. But I wanted to achieve that amazing 4/4 beat sound from V2. Just listen to the perfect mix of hi-hat and snare.

Ramones – Do You Wanna Dance?/It’s A Long Way Back To Germany 7″

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

It’s not that I’m running out of lesser known records. It’s just that I want to remind myself that most of the really great punk bands are the big ones. Like Ramones. And if I can post a known band with a rare sleeve version I’ll do it. What the fuck? It’s a rare DUTCH sleeve version. Again. To be certain I’m awaiting some comments that can confirm that this is the more rare dutch sleeve. One of my better finds. Payed $5.00 and seen it go for as high as $475. I wasn’t that fond of Ramones in the 70′s and the main reason was that all of my neighborhood didn’t like any other punk band except the Ramones. I thought that was silly when there was so many bands that I though was MUCH better like Pistols, Clash, Generation X, Vibrators etc. During the years I’ve come to love them more and more. The first punk band who released the first punk album and single. That’s how I see my punk history. Touring the UK in the summer of 1976 and gave fuel to the whole punk explosion. They need to be credited no doubt. Still, after Rocket To Russia they should’ve called it a day.
