First release from the infamous Good Vibrations records out of Ireland. Big Time is the obvious hit but I must say it gets annoying after some spins. Not so with No.1. No. 1 got more bite and snottyness to it. How come most irish bands had such a talent for writing hooky and melodic punk? We got Stiff Little Fingers, Clive Culbertson, Undertones, The Starjets, insert any other band here and Rudi. Their later stuff ain’t that interesting to me except Overcome By Fumes from the Battle Of The Bands comp. 7inch.

Here’s a short story about the band from the Wikipedia site:

The Thought Criminals - Food For Thought Crimes E.P. 7″

If it’s not from the States or Sweden you can be sure it’s from Australia. Thought Criminals did just as most other punk bands in the 70’s: carved out a sound totally of their own.

Inspired by the Desperate Bicycles they went on to form their own label Doublethink that put out a fair amount of great records. The Hilton Bomber 7inch is probably their most famous record and the one that is hardest to get hold of but this second plastic is just as great. Most of you might know that they’re together again and offer their latest anthology CD/LP for free: I won’t pay for punk records.

As with many other Australian punk bands I’m amazed at the speed many of them manage to achieve as early as 1978 or for that matter in 1977 if you take a listen to Flipped Out Over You by The Victims. Download Fuck Their Neighbors from the link above and you’ll hear what I mean. Or for that matter Display/Response: Action below.

Fear - Now Your Dead/I Love Livin In The City 7″

It’s a classic so it needs to be posted though I doubt that there’s anyone here who haven’t heard Fears first masterpiece. Lee Ving has to be one of the most offensive and brilliant persons to emerge from the early LA scene and to me all his charisma can be heard in his incredible voice. Take a look at Fears appearance in the Decline… movie and you get what I mean. So fucking funny and nasty to the audience. Where are dudes like Lee these days?

But Lee would’ve been nothing without the rest of this genius bunch who seems to be one of the most talented bands to ever come out of the early US punk rock.

The first Fear LP is on my top 5 list of the best punk rock albums of all time. Brilliant lyrics, incredible song writing and amazing production. An LP, just like the first Scream LP, I just can’t get tired of.

I’m sorry to report that the Fuck Christmas reissue don’t sound as good as the original.

What is there to say about such a great record like this? Absolutely flawless from start to finish. Yepp here’s another gem that Erich of Good Bad Music posted some time ago but his links are dead so here we go. The punch on this recording just hits me every time. Great playing, great songs and a tasty production.

Guitarist Eddie Vincent and drummer Tad, having played together in Los Angeles with various bands since the early seventies, found themselves in London after touring Europe and North Africa with Swiss rocker and performance artist Bernard Constantin during the famous punk summer of 1977.

Fuck, its been incredible hot here in Sweden. It nearly drives me mad har har. As you might guess, sitting inside and blogging isn’t my favorite thing to do while the sun is shining but right now I have some time off and the clouds are here again.

Is there anyone out there who didn’t drop his/her jaw when first hearing this? I first heard it on the New York Thrash comp. tape released by Roir. Took some time before I got hear the almost equally great Eyeball. Yeah, Erich at Good Bad Music have posted this too and his rips are in higher quality but here you get all the scans as well. This records NEEDS to be posted everywhere. Wonder what happened to that old The Mad member who was around here posting some comments when the Fried Egg 7inch was uploaded.

This is a repost from August the 22nd 2006. Added more scans, re-recorded and uploaded all the tracks. This time the tracks are from the original release and not the reissue. Sounds a bit beefier.

Ok, Strange Reaction posted this some time ago but since the files are 128kbps encoded the hihat and cymbals are just too nasty to my ears. And this 7inch is just to damned great to not be posted with a high quality rip.

Amazing in your face obnoxious LA punk that blows away their first 7inch by miles in case you’ve heard that one and got dissapointed(Note from Tony: This is their first.). Raw yet melodic. By the way did they bring The Drones-Further Temptations with them into the studio to have that as a reference during production? The beginning of This Generation… often misleads me into that I’m going to hear The Drones.

One funny thing is that “…vacation” actually sounds like me singing backing vocals. A little bit nasal and childish.

Two track punk rock blaster from the land of cheese, cuckoos clocks and one famous growler who also posted this last year. But since this is one of them that can’t be posted enough you’ll get it here too. Backed up by Fresh Color Dieter takes you on a ride that is as classic as classic can be. This gets my vote to be in the Punk Rock Museum of old classics. I’ve always wondered if there’s an intentional fuck up in the first verse by the band.

The Bleach Boys - S/T 7″

Not as fast and raw as their “Stocking Clad…” 12inch from 1983(the year of when it was released is really confusing). But it’s 1978 kids. Crude, simple, amateurish and of course amazing!! Especially Chloroform. Just admit it! After one listen it’s hard not to go around humming C-c-c-c-c-chloroform. Yes, the volume is faded up in the beginning on the record. It’s not me.

Check out an interview over at Punk 77:”Tramp was not our label - it was owned by a guy called Terry Friend who was/is still a grave digger in Letchworth.

Swedish punk sung in the southern dialect skanska makes up for a special treat. Sounds more desperate and obnoxious. Problem goes through punk in Va har jag gjort?, 60s flavoured powerpop in Jag vill inte ha, good ‘ol rock in Malmo sta and then back to punk in Kroppsvisit. The low budget production and the brilliant lyrics makes it sounds punk all in all.

Problem made a very good LP after this but after that they became less and less interesting to me.

Ah! Knugen was posted in the TV Eye // Drummers New Years Eve post. A fantastic song! But there’s one more namely the a-side. This is some insanely great “Folkets Hus” punk. Don’t know if there’s any similarity’s to Folkets hus outside of Sweden? Roughly translated The Peoples House. Those Folkets hus can be found in every small or big city all over Sweden and was built up by the early Nykterhersrorlsen(The Stay Sober Movement) to gather the poor and drinking working class for sober events. Later on they became the hall for the growing Socialdemocratic movement to spread their political ideas.

Why do I call it Folkets Hus punk? It sounds like the sound you could experience while visiting punk gigs in the late ’70s in Folkets hus. Big, empty and somewhat messy.

Rune Strutz where from Uppsala and god knows what happened to these guys but at least they carved their name into the swedish punk history with this classic piece of Socialdemocratic Folkets hus punk.
