Swedish punk sung in the southern dialect skanska makes up for a special treat. Sounds more desperate and obnoxious. Problem goes through punk in Va har jag gjort?, 60s flavoured powerpop in Jag vill inte ha, good ‘ol rock in Malmo sta and then back to punk in Kroppsvisit. The low budget production and the brilliant lyrics makes it sounds punk all in all.

Problem made a very good LP after this but after that they became less and less interesting to me.

Ah! Knugen was posted in the TV Eye // Drummers New Years Eve post. A fantastic song! But there’s one more namely the a-side. This is some insanely great “Folkets Hus” punk. Don’t know if there’s any similarity’s to Folkets hus outside of Sweden? Roughly translated The Peoples House. Those Folkets hus can be found in every small or big city all over Sweden and was built up by the early Nykterhersrorlsen(The Stay Sober Movement) to gather the poor and drinking working class for sober events. Later on they became the hall for the growing Socialdemocratic movement to spread their political ideas.

Why do I call it Folkets Hus punk? It sounds like the sound you could experience while visiting punk gigs in the late ’70s in Folkets hus. Big, empty and somewhat messy.

Rune Strutz where from Uppsala and god knows what happened to these guys but at least they carved their name into the swedish punk history with this classic piece of Socialdemocratic Folkets hus punk.

Oh my! That’s how I want my snare to sound! Listen to the intro to Teenage Kicks. Amazing. So punchy and crispy. My favourite track is Smarter Than You tightly followed by True Confession. Roaring guitar sound topped with one of the best and most original voices found in the old stinky thing called punk. Anyone heard the reformed Undertones without Feargal Sharky?

The Push - Love U/Zip Demon 7″

push_love_front.jpgpush_love_back.jpgpush_love_label_a.jpgpush_love_label_b.jpg

Previous post where by an American band so following the tradition it’s time for some swedes to do the punk. The Push can’t be blamed to have a sound of their own. But it dosen’t matter when they manage to crank out a hit like Love U. Don’t be fooled by the intro. Amazing hi-hat sound. Humbugging(I was about to write thuging but the new spell checker in Firefox suggested humbugging instead so lets go with that) guitars and nice gayish piano. How about the photos on the back? Jag frågar chans på Stellan Nilsson iallafall.

Forget about their other releases. Bad ska/reggae. Zip Demon is an attempt at playing hard rock but they fail miserably. And guess what? The Push are from Klippan too! What happened there? Why so many great bands from such a small town?

Wow! What a fantastic guitar sound on Smittad. Aquarium sound. Doesn’t hurt that the song is top notch swedish punk from the golden year of 1978 either. The b-side Gania ain’t that exciting. Mizz Nobody where from Klippan who gave us other great acts like Noise and Kriminella Gitarrer. Eva the singer later went on to Kabinett Dod based in Malmo.

Bruset - Radio Aktiv 7″

bruset_radio_front.jpgbruset_radio_back.jpgbruset_radio_label_a.jpgbruset_radio_label_b.jpg

Seems that the old Gothenburg scene got me in its grip lately. Radio Aktiv is by far the best song from Bruset etched on to vinyl. Incredible popwerpop/punk the way the super sweet blond Swedish vikings only manage do it.

Bruset sounds like some older men who used to be into gubbrock/pubrock discovered punk and decided that is the way to go. Nattsteg is boring boring boring. And you still want to hear it? Ok suit yourself. But keep in mind is another 3 minutes and 13 seconds waste of your life. Think about what other great stuff you could’ve heard instead. I imagen that some of the guys had a girlfriend that liked the b-side and said:”No, Hans I will never suck your dick again if you don’t release Nattsteg. It’s the best song you’ve done. It’s so totally girly.”

Happy New Year!

Monday, January 1st, 2007

OK, this will be the last post from me, TVEYE // Drummer, because I can´t find the time to keep on posting on this blog (as you noticed), and Peter is doing a great job so I guess you won´t miss me. From now on, Peter (The Flakes // Drummer) will run this blog all by himself.

Please enjoy some GREAT old swedish punkrock and wave, and hopefully all you pretentious record collectors will get some more obscure records to add to your evergrowing wantlists…

Now go start your own blog!

Thanks!

Misfits are great but over hyped. Don’t need to tell you much since you can find anything you wanna know about them on the net. This is a quality bootleg made by some Japanese in 1986. Anyone got the original to compare the sound quality?

Thanks to EMI we got to hear this. I can not thank the big major labels enough who gave us REAL punk bands like The Clash, Sex Pistols, Generation X, XTC, Ultravox, 999, The Police, X-Ray Spex etc. Remember that it was the crappy independent labels that gave us amazing stuff like The Exploited, Anti Pasti and the whole shitty UK82 phenomena and crappy mid to late 80s HC.

Note: If you got mediocre musical taste it’s strongly advised that you DON’T download this.

The home of Erich/Good Bad Cheese sure had their good share of great punk bands. Here’s one of the first punk records out if Switzerland. Composed of members from the “alternative jet set” which I read somewhere. Whatever that means. Two great songs that sounds like punk. What a suprise!
