Oh my! What is there to tell you about The Germs that you don’t allready know? The intro to No God is taken from one thing that Darby, Pat and I had/have in common: we all love/d Yes. It’s from “Roundabout” the first song on “Fragile”. A fantastic record.

The special guitar sound was aquired through a direct line in to the soundboard since Pat had forgotten to bring with him an amplifier. Some people told me that the new version of Germs without Darby shall be pretty great so it may be worth catching them live if they come around.

I know I know! 7inchpunk posted this awhile ago. BUT since I’m a bit picky about the sound the mp3s didn’t do it for me. There’s a huge sound difference between 128kps and 192kbps rips. The sound isn’t as full and the cymbals hurts my tinnitus ears. To make it a little bit more fun I’ve scanned the back of the sleeve and the fold out ditty. It’s 1978 and it’s from Australia so you know it rocks!

Undercover Cops. You think you’re tuff! Don’t you? You’re bacon! Oink Oink Oink!

The Shirkers - Drunk And Disordely 7″

This is a re-post from March the 30th 2006. Added more scans and Suicide.

Since I’m reading “Dance Of Days” now about the early DC scene I thought of celebrating that with this raving classic. The manic girl choir really sound stupidly drunk.

A trick I think I’ll use in a future recording for some band is one very fuzzy guitar and the other totally clean. Gives it a special desperate touch! Produced by Don Zientara. Released with two diffrent sleeves. I’ve got the more common crashed bottle sleeve.

The Skinnies - Kill The Beat 7″

This is a re-post from march the 31st 2006. Added more scans and I’m A Dullard.

Reissued by Rave Up a couple of years ago but NOT with the original outstanding sleeve. You should get it cause of the two original tracks.

Accompanied with The Normals 7″ Lectric Eye released two killer records and what else do a record label need in their catalog? The buzzzzing voice in the intro of “Out Of Order”, the sound of what sounds like a broken crash cymbal and the dubbed vocals makes this perfect.

The Numbers - Sunset Strip E.P. 7″

This is a re-post from June the 20th 2006. Added more scans.

Instead of ripping my own copy I downloaded The Numbers tunes from 7inchpunk.com or what I thought was The Numbers tunes just to hear that there was something missing. Where had the rawnees gone?

I guess the tracks over there where from the remastered The Riptides(who they later changed their name to and re-released this 7inch) cause it didn’t sound as great as this 7inch. So here you get them as they sounded in the first place. Much better in my opinion.

Someone was telling me there’s some sort of sport event going on. Grown up men kicking a ball around. Well I have two balls to kick around.

The Numbers were part of the burgeoning Brisbane punk/new wave scene which also gave rise to The Leftovers, The Apartments, The Go-Betweens, The Survivors, Razar, The Humans and The X-Men. In September 1978, The Numbers issued the rare `Sunset Strip’ EP (500 copies) on The Go-Betweens’ Able label.

Mecano Ltd - Face Cover Face 7″

Another band I know jack shit about. From Holland and you know it’s hard to go wrong with those eraly dutch punk bands. Face Cover Face can be found on Killed By Death Vol. 14.

Mecano Ltd later stripped their name to just Mecano and have released records until 1996: Mecano Discography.

Anyway this is an excellent two sider with Face Cover Face taking the lead with the hooky bass in the chorus. “Face cover face. Space sucks space. Plastic eats flesh. Spastics need trash.” Yeah!

From the same label that released the incredible The Skinnies 7″(coming up don’t worry) and the not so great The Buns 7″. The dubing of the vocals that is then paned left and right makes up for a very special sound. As soon as you hear the guitar lead in the beginning of Almost Ready you know you’re up for a tasty treat.

Fresh color 7.jpgThe band that backed up Dieter Meier on his 7-inch “Cry for fame”, which can be found on one of the other blogs. Go find it - it´s GREAT!

Here it is: Good Bad Music For Bad, Bad Times!

Otherwise I don´t know much about this band…

Oh, I almost forgot: This record is GREAT!

Plugz - Move E.P. 7″

Sunday, September 3rd, 2006

plugz_move.jpgIt’s good to get to hear these old hard to get classics on some boot. Like Bloodstains Across California who has Move on there. But sometimes things go wrong. They’ve speeded it up a little bit. The original version(here) is 1:17 and on Bloodstains it’s 1:15. Well I do favour a faster version but since it’s not how it original sounded I just have to post it.

The same goes for Let Go that’s been posted by the mighty Something I Learned Today. It actually sounds better there(trashier and beefier but it’s originally a really thin production) clocking in on 1:33 but the original version is 1:35.

Don’t know if the Plugz counted the punks in Hollywood but on the “Special Thanks To” list they thanks “…all the 200 punks who rule Hollywood.”.

With rough, sardonic tunes, including a punk version of Chicano cover favorite ” La Bamba “, the Plugz earned a seminal spot in the annals of punk, sharing the stage with groups such as X and the Circle Jerks at clubs like Madame Wong’s and the Masque.

Bullets - Girl On Page 3 7″

Friday, September 1st, 2006

bullets.jpgThe title track reveal what I suspect what this band was really all about: bad pub rock jumping on the punk bandwagon. But I can’t deny that the flip Grammar School Girls is a catchy Stranglerish punk ditty with piano. Love it.

And what makes me love this even more is the fact that 77punk.co.uk wrote this:”To top it all, they resort to that most base of rock’n'roll tricks of roping in some topless model to help flog the single.” Sure it’s a simple trick but there’ve been worse: all these bands “looking” punk to trying to sell their shit.
