The Delinquents – Alien Beach Party E.P. 7″

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

What kind of mood are you in today? Feelin’ a bit arty and new wavey? If so, spin the A-side of these Texans debut EP. It gets me in a B 52’s mood and makes me wanna post their amazing first 7″. Cool organ sound and a super simple and monotone surf influenced guitar line

If you’re more in a punk mood, then dig the two smashers on the B-side instead. I have a hard time to pick a winner from them as I’m a huge sucker for farfisas, female vocalists and thin production, but Do you have a job for a girl like me? might be a bit stronger.

Later on the band released an LP together with Lester Bangs and became the forerunners of the alternative country scene, but as I haven’t heard that album, or paid too much attention to that genre what so ever, I leave that to others to find out. Of course there’s a myspace site for the band, and a bunch of videos from the bands reunion, that ain’t too bad actually.

The Pack – King Of Kings 7″

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Wish I experienced Kirk Brandon when he was in The Pack but it wasn’t until Theater Of Hate made it to my hometown Linkoping/Sweden in 1982 I felt his voice inside of me. Seldom have I experienced such a voice that made me physical exhausted. Totally unique. Theater Of Hate was more of post punk and the early stuff is really really great. After TOH he went on to Spear Of Destiny and there I lost all interest. But The Pack. Well known I know but still think they’re a little bit underrated and makes me post it. Hopefully some folks hear them for the first time and get a feel that it’s something they missed. The debut of theirs is a bit boring but this one and the Long Live The Past EP are must haves. I also have a live tape which unfortunately don’t have that great sound but I may post it anyway in the future. Listen to these two anthems which makes a great couple. The melancholic slower King Of Kings to the furious Pistolesque Number 12. Marvelous.

Hitler SS/Tampax – E.P. 7″

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Legendary split with Italy’s Hitler SS and Tampax. Not worth the amount it goes for if you ask me and a proof that rare doesn´t always equals quality. I got mine for free by a collector years ago and decided to keep it. Slave by Hitler SS is GOOD and the vocals reminds me of Vibrators V2 era. Naked and Punk Is Dead No Solution bores me to death. Complete crap. A funny thing is that they claimed to be former members of London SS ha ha. Then we have Tampax. And yes UFO Dictator, the most talked about song on this split, is good for 2 minutes then it’s not funny anymore. Tampax(In The Cunt) is a great song title too bad the song don’t live up to it’s name. So why post a record that I’m not that fond of? Cause it’s regarded as a classic and now you know what not to spend your money on.

Reeperbahn – Havet ligger blankt/Be-bop 7″

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

The first time I heard Havet ligger blankt as a very young kid I thought it was the best song ever written even if I couldn’t understand what the fuck the lyrics was supposed to be about. It’s now at least 20 years since that first time I fell in love with the song, but I still love it almost as much now as I did back then. Too band the band never manage to record anything thats even close to being as good as that song after that, despite all the records they did.

The band recorded a bunch of decent power pop demos as well before this 7″, and some of those songs from can be heard on their myspace site where you can read the full story of the band.

Don’t you just love it when everything about a band is well documented so you don’t have to read too much of my noncense here? I sure do!

Here’s another post for Tony the punk business manager as he has this E.P. on his want list. As Tony is a steady guy when it comes to finding trivia about forgotten bands I hope he has some nice comments with loads of info about the 4 bands on this split. I’ll just do a quick run through the bands as I’m too lazy for research, as always.

The Accused might be one of the sloppiest bands ever, and thanksfully their story is documented here. As I use the descriptions totally amazing and brilliant quite often here I’ll just satisfiey with saying that they are one of the best bands today. They are so sloppy that it’s hard to believe that they actually were for real!

The Cracked Actors are way tighter and gives us a perfect punk hit about disco that sounds  like it could’ve been done by the younger brothers of Disco Zombies. The singer had this to say about this recording: ‘Disco’ was written and recorded within 72 hours. Due to our drummer having a bout of ’studio fright’ the day before recording, we had to borrow another drummer we knew -who learned the song on the way to the studio by tapping his drumsticks on the back of the driver’s seat while I sang the song to him! The band did 2 more 7inches that I’ve never seen or heard, so if anyone got them, please let me know.

021 should not be confused with the noise-makers of 012 who appeared on at least one of the Fuck Off releases with some unlistening stuff. This band is straight forward shitty produced punk and almost as sloppy as the Accused, who we’re the guys who released this E.P. and therefor got the privilege of having 3 songs on it.021 did one 7″ of their own as well, and from what I’ve heard about it, it’s supposed to be really great, but rare as hell. Of course there’s a great quote from this band as well, taken from the guitarist Ian Kemp and included on one of the Messthetics comps; “For some reason we ran over time and had to give the studio all the money in our pockets to be able to leave…”

The Undertakers ends the disc with a nice poppy tune, but I can’t find any info about the band right now, so just enjoy the music instead and do your own research!.

Sorry about the shitty scan of the cover, but I got it as a scanned copy so there’s not much I can do about it unfortunately. If anyone can provide me with a good scan of it, please do so.
The insert was an alternative “cover” that came with some of the  copies as far as I can understand, as the bands got to do whatever artwork they liked with their copies, but which band that did the insert is of course beyond my knowledge. Did you expect something else?
