The Grackles – S/T E.P. 7″

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Who needs wildlife anyway? A question asked less often as the environmental fascist grows stronger. Polar bears? Destroy them. Pandas? Ha ha they´re so fucking ugly. Tigers? They eat babies. Let´s kill them all. Wildlife as heard on the excellent comp. Staring Down the Barrel just plows it´s way through the speakers and I get goose bumps bigger then my penis head. Followed by Don´t Get Get Me Wrong which is not as strong but you know sometimes a weaker song is necessary to make a stong song even stronger. It´s great though and even fuzzier then Wildlife. It´s my Party opens up with a speech by the man that many saw as the second coming of Christ(including me) and the music is true to the original while you can hear that Grackles are pretty competent musicians. She´s A Fool is about your mother and might be my fave track actually. Fuzzed to the max with loads “s”s breaking through vocals. Lovely. So who knows more about The Grackles?

Devo – Gut Feeling/Satisfaction 7″

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

DEVO, D-E-V-O. I can´t really explain the importance Devo had in my life. In so many ways more important than The Clash or Pistols. They where the band that to me showed that you could really do anything inside the boundaries of punk. Or maybe it was the contrast to all the other punk bands that showed that you really could do anything but still be punk. Much like early Adam and the Ants and Ultravox. The beauty of the late 70´s: non conformist, non stererotypical. Devo where ahead of their time and very much in line with what was going on too. If you´ve seen the “Men who make the music” video and not became an instant Devo fan after that I think you´ll never be. Thought about digging out my original yellow Devo suit(that was owned by a radio dj who was sent to him as a promo upon the release of Q: Are we not men?) from the 70s and taking a picture accompanion this post but maaaan I´m way too lazy for that. By the way this the rarer spanish sleeve. Or is it the dutch?

The Moderns – S/T E.P. 7″

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

I think it’s about time for another mod jewel, and unlike Parkas Pop, this one is really hard to resist. Surprisingly fast and tough, and Janne was not only Swedens mod answer to Mike Watt when it came to brilliant and inovative basslines, but also an incredibly skilled song writer.

The well dressed boys had quite a career both in Sweden and abroad and did an even better second 7″ called Ready for the 80′s (that I know Peter will post here someday) before they sealed a major deal and did an LP on Parlaphone. Basicly everything the band did is well worth picking up including some wonderful smashers on various compilations. Pick up your wallet and search for them before they get even more pricey.

PS. Take a good look at the third guy from left. He’s doing the pose that makes you look like your mom ate too many Thalidomide pills while she was expecting… DS.

Quiet Men – No One Is Quiet E.P. 7″

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Quiet Men were yet another Gavle band, but thankfully they didn’t think horrible punk “music” was enough, so they added two reggae songs to their first E.P. After this release the band shortened their name to Quiet and kept the reggae groove on a bunch of 7inches.

The bass player, Sonny, might be familiar as he played with P.F. Commando as well, and Christer who played drums on this E.P. returned the favour by playing drums on a bunch of songs on the Manipulerade Mongon LP. What a nice gesture! Later on Christer played with Lolita Pop whos first 7″ is worth a post as it’s a new wave killer!

As you might remember from a post way back in time, the singer from City Kent used to sing with his dick out, which might sound pretty cool, but the keyboard player in this band took his genitalia to a higher level as he used it instead of his hands.

The Carpets – S/T(aka Kill Hirb Cane) E.P. 7″

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Many times I feel a bit sad when I’m posting a classic. When it’s posted it’s like gone…Like a giving birth to a child or when it’s leaving home. Living it’s own life on the web clueless about all the bad people who’s going to alter it’s original format, removing tags, changing bitrates and what not to cover up its origin. There’s nothing to do and the most important thing is that people gets to hear these forgotten classics. Of course The Carpets has been on immortalized on KBD #19 with Kill Hirb Cane. Who’s Hirb Cane by the way? Googling gives me nothing. A killer song indeed but there’s another gem here: Fast One. Border on Hardcore in 1979 seems more common then I thought. The flip yields no HIT but I’m very fond of Not Coy which is pretty much saved by Hanwards voice. Well when I think it about the same goes for Okey Dokey. A damned solid EP! Also released under the name of The Conservaties with a sleeve that seems to be even rare then this version. Anyone have this and are able to do me a scan?
