zootalors_label_a.jpgzootalors_label_b.jpg

Though punk is dead powerpop is alive. One of my most beloved pop records is the only released as demo record by the mysterious Zoot Alors. Former member, Paul Sneap, had a site up some years ago with some demos. Too bad I didn’t download it. I got in contact with him to ask for other stuff but of course there wasn’t any according to Paul.

So pull down your Dis-records in a little box. Put on the skinny tie. The war ain’t coming today. And listen carefully to what Zoot has to tell you. Oh, yeah I got an extra copy to trade/sell in case anyones interested.

The Faders - Cheatin’/Library Book 7″

Sew me. I’ve changed the order of the songs. Cause I think Library Book is THE a-side. Be prepared the bas is very loud on this marvelous punk/powerpooper. Cheatin’ is a good 60’s flavored stomper with some sweet back up vocals but can’t really match the high standard of Library Book.

Library Book was featured by James/Worthless Thrash a long time ago. Visit his blog! It’s worth it. And talking about James(or Steve/LDK) I’m sure he/they knows a lot more about The Faders then I managed to dig out from Google. Which is nothing except their inclusion on England Belongs To Me Vol. 2.

Wow! Another re-post from May the 9th 2006. The reason to all these reposts is that I’m trying out my new gear and compare it to the old ones. Added more scans and new rips.

Stry Terraries characteristic voice is one of Swedens best. You recognise him from Kriminella Gitarrer. Here his band is going into a more moody dark direction that became more evident in the band after this: Garbochock. “Anna Greta…” have become a swedish punk rock classic. Hmm is their a none swedish classic released pre 1980? Maybe not. Can’t think of anyone right now. I “shoulnd’t” like the b-side since it’s a mid tempo quite long song but it manage to get a grip on me cause of the catchy keyboard.

GBG Sound - Bjorn Borg 7″

gbgsound_bjorn_label_a.jpggbgsound_bjorn_label_b.jpg

This is a re-post from March the 23rd 2006. The first record we posted here actually. Added more scans and a new rip.

Bjorn Borg! You haven’t made a descent thing in your life! A somewhat swenglish translation of the famous chorus that I was huming on a lot as a kid. It felt so good cause I generally hated all kind of sports. GBG Sound or Göteborg Sound was of course from Gothenburg. Compared to bands in Stockholm the Gothenburg bands had more of a “progg” feeling and weren’t so punk in their outfits. No studs, leather jackets or mohawks.

The Bjorn Borg 7″ was a self released one sided ditty pressed in 200 copies. No sleeve just the ugly face of Bjorn on the label. Now download.

This is a re-post from April the 4th 2006. Added more scans, new rips and Vild i skogen(he he that track ain’t that bad after all).

Sweden had some of the best punk bands in the 70’s beginning of the 80’s. Here’s just ONE example of many to prove it. Dr. Zeke only released this master piece then dissapeared. “Aldrig Do” have been living on diffrent comps during the years though and recently swedens Heart Attacks covered it.

This is a re-post from April the 3rd 2006. Added more scans, new rips, Paddedd Cell and Tumor Boy.

There’s no doubt that these punk rockers are mentally ill. How well they capture it in this fuzzy buzzy manic sing along punk rock anthem. Where are the psychos in punk nowadays? Recommendations? No not The Spits I don’t like them.

This is a re-post from April the 21th 2006. Added more scans, new rips and I Wanna Be A Cowboy. Got a sleeve now. Please let me know if this sounds better then the old rips since I’m using some new gear.

No, Rob Noxious(Guy Robert at eBay: lewdsnot, zoloft_anaconda,thingsdogsdo) didn’t give me a sleeve to this one either. If anyone have a 150dpi scan to hand over to me that would be higly appreciated. So the sleeve is once again taken from Henry Welds American Punk Discography. Hope you hear Ians voice when I say: “Thanks Henry!”. What about Buck Byron? You tell me. Haven’t find anything on the Internet. You won’t get the b-side cause it’s not good. It’s a waste of bandwith to have it available.

This is a re-post from March the 27th 2006. Added more scans, new rips and I Wanna Be Your Man. This almost tops The Eat.

Ahhh so intense. Listen to the hi-hat sound. You don’t hear that nowadays. And the clicking sound when hitting the ride cymbal. Add to that the (r)obnoxious “I don’t give a fuck” style of singing and we have a winner. And the way they end the song it sounds like they’re just glad it’s over. The b-side “I Wanna Be Your Man” is a great cover with inspirational vocals.

First installment of the fantastic The Eat. I like the second, posted some months ago, release but this is an insane piece of punk rock. And it’s recorded live! I hardly like live recordings but here it works perfect. It got so much energy and inspiration I can picture the whole band in front of me while the needle carves its way into vinyl. And last and most important: the songs are short! And the sleeve!! Take a look at it ladies and gentlemen! Can it get much better? Let’s see when a new post hits the blog if I can top this.

Airship - S/T 7″

airship_front.jpgairship_back.jpg
airship_label_a.jpgairship_label_b.jpg

I’ve been looking for this after hearing it at the excellent Worthless Trash blog. James does an incredible job and I have to make a plug for it once again via this post.

I think the real winner is Get Out… A powerpop/punk smasher that sounds like some skilled musicians wanting to jump the new wave bandwagon. And of course they get away with it.

I won’t write more about Airship but instead you shall head over to Worthless Trash and read all about it.

Country: UK
Year: 1979
Label: Decca
