Crucifix - Nineteen Eighty Four E.P. 7″

crucifix_label_a.jpg crucifix_label_b.jpg

The only let down to me is that the b-side isn’t as raw and catchy as the a-side. Steelcase Enclosure is a waste of space but Rise And Fall is great. While Rise And Fall is great Prejudice is awesome. The rawness overwhelmes me everytime. Their follow up to this the Dehumanization LP is good too but tends to be a little tiresome after some spins. You know it’s the problem with too many of them dis and that bands. A couple of songs slips throug which is great then they’re on repeat with the same chord structure over and over. The only thing that changes is the ability of the drummers to execute the d-beat.

And yeah the lyrics. When I interviewd Henry Rollins 1984 I handed over the first demo from our old band called War Child(ha ha ha). It was pure dis and that stuff with war lyrics mostly written by me. He looked into my eyes and asked me:”Don’t you guys ever get tired of singing about war all the time?”. “Eh no I think it’s a really important subject.”. Ha ha.

As much as I hate the tiresome subject of broken hearts in emo bands I despise the war theme among punk bands. Never mind the peace punks here’s the Crucifix.

Urban Waste - S/T E.P. 7″

Back with a bang! There’s great HC and there’s utterly disgraceful HC. This falls into the first category. This is the real deal. No poses or some kids just discovering HC and singing about how great it is and that we have to mosh, skate and stick togheter like one while we’re spinning the other generic HC record after another.

This post is dedicated to Mr. Power Metal/Erich Good Bad Music to pay him back for his nice dedication.

As a poor little punk kid brought up by my mother working her ass off as a nurse there weren’t much money around for her son to buy those tasty punk and HC records coming out in the early 80s.

So what could one do? Steal of course! On the left side of my leather jacket I had ripped a large hole where 7inches nicely fitted in.

On a visit to my father who lived in Stockholm I always payed the several record stores in the capital of Sweden a visit. In the corner of the big hooker street Malmskillnadsgatan in Stockholm they had this really good record store called Record Pool(If my memory serves me). A rainy autumn day in 1983 they had both the Urban Waste and the Cause For Alarm 7inches. I hadn’t heard them but since every punk record released back then where at least decent I didn’t hesitate to pull ‘em both into my punk jacket and heading out of there.

Now repeat after me kids and old farts:
I’m not into punk rock. I’m not into hardcore. Don’t you try to label me. Public opinion!

Here’s one of those essential US HC 7inches. Distorted, fucked up, raw and recorded live in the studio. The end result is of course fantastic. These guys where already tired of Straight Edge and this was in 1982 kids. Their 12inch EP “What´s Going On” was a big disappointment. To polished and boring.

I don’t know HOW many times I’ve listen to “Walking On The Roof”. 100? 145? After hearing the song over at the poppunkmod site I got obessed of tracking the 7″ down.

I found it about 1 1/2 year ago and haven’t seen another copy since. The B-side is ok but nothing for punks with a weak heart. Though “Walking…” exceeds the ultimate song lenght of 1:32 to a symphonic lenght of 3:51 I still love it!

First heard at the excellent Litte Hits: www.littlehits.com. Awesome, killer arrrrrgggghhh it’s powerpop till you bleed. Need I say more? No! Thank you! Now over to Jon at Little Hits:”You know how so many punk and power pop records of the era have “ironic” lyrics about taking you out to the drive-in or meeting your parents, or whatever? This one evokes an innocence that seems completely real, an un-selfconsciousness that not even the fake British accents can negate.

A classic that I like even more now then when I bought it. Strange isn’t it? Their firts LP is essential too then they went on a post punk/indie journy that lost me. But these tracks and the ones on the first volume of Master Tape are what counts in my opinion. Great thuging HC with a nice low budget production.

Here’s something for the emo kids:”You can’t go on much longer that way. You won’t go on much longer that way. You’re all too sane. It’s painful pain. It’s time you went insane. You will go insane. It’s always a painful day. In every fucking way.” -Pain.

L Seven - Insanity E.P. 7″

Friday, September 15th, 2006

lseven.jpgThe most underrated 7inch released by Touch & Go? I bought it cause of the label. And what a freaking nice suprise it was! Here I was expecting some bad ass HC and out of the speakers came some incredible awesome post-punk or whatever you want to call it. I spin this before Necros-IQ32 anytime!

When the band formed, Larissa was the one who was the most into the exploding English punk scene, and she started a fanzine called Anonymous. It was through this fanzine that she got to know the Necros,…

Indigesti - split 7″

Indigesti - Wretched split.jpgThis is a split with Wretched. Wretched is also great but I just wanted to post the indigesti-tracks today!

I´m really in love with the snotty vocals and the fast melodic hardcore of Indigesti! Later they released a LP (1985 I think) but after that I don´t know…

I used to have this but have recently sold it: as you might know I´m selling off my record collection!

Check out my Ebay-auctions: GASPUNK

I´m trying to put up 10 items every week.

Back to Indigesti: Like THE FLAKES // DRUMMER said in another post; this one is from the golden days when every band had their own style and sound! It´so boring with all the OFFSPRING / BAD RELIGION / HIVES sound-alikes…

Cinecyde - I Left My Heart In Detroit City LP 12″

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

cinecyde_detroitcity.jpgToo bad there’s only three good tracks on this one. The production on the other hand makes it sometimes worthwhile to listen through the whole thing. Incredible punchy! If this had been a 7inch with Don’t Come… and Enemy Man it would’ve been a monster. A perfect mix of punky powerpop with a slight hard rock influence(hey it’s from Detroit!).

The self-designed cardboard sleeve saw Cinecyde singer Gary Reichel and guitarist Jim Olenski machine-gunned to bits by the band’s SS-suited drummer, Roger Wesch.
