Fast, fun and hip. Reminds me a bit of Stark Raving Mad. Great roaring guitar sound coupled with out of control drumming. Released in 1984 it was maybe a bit too late for the trend but I still find this to be a fantastic piece of the HC history.

William DuVall, guitarist, is in some grunge/metal band these days. He also took the job as a stand in vocalist for Alice In Chains on their tour last year. What can I say? Shit happens.

Zero Boys - History Of Cassette

I forgot to ask Paul Mahren the singer of Zero Boys the history about this tape back in 1991 when I arranged a gig for them at Skylten in Linkoping/Sweden. Why wasn’t it released on vinyl? Why the “Boycott Upstart Records” on the sleeve? Where Upstart supposed to release it and fucked them over? Dunno. Paul was a super nice guy to chat with and the only let down from the show was that they forgotten to play Beach Blanket from their come back LP: Make It Stop which is as good as any of the stuff from their first.

So if anyone knows the history behind this tape please let us living in darkness be enlightened!

Strange Reaction posted this sometime ago but I thought I might just add my own rip too.

Buzzaw guitar sound, Jelloish vocals and great song writing. I really don’t think James McMonagle tried to sound like Jello. He just happened to sound that way. Ahhh that yo yo yo yo middle part in Powerload give me shivvers everytime. Too bad the LP that came after this didn’t live up to the quality of this debute record.

Inside the sleeve one of the guys have written:”Only four more covers to do!!” and then there’s a nice drawing too. What a relief after hand glueing 500 sleeves. Classic US HC with a unique sound folks.

Gang Green - Sold Out E.P. 7″

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

gang_green_sold_vinyl.jpgIn the early 80s I did some trades with Curtis out of Taang! Records and he was kind enough to send me this. 100 copies made and this is number 42. Do I want to brag about it? Of course I want!

After this Gang Green went downward. But this, Boston Not L.A. and Unsafe At Any Speed is killer stuff. One of the bigger moments in my life(right after the first time I painted my first swastika on a ripped t-shirt in 1978) has to be when hearing GG on Boston. It was a totally new world. How the fuck did they manage to sound that fast? Still to this day I think the drumming of GG is hard to top.

The so called Dub song is Terrorize without vocals. So you need that one for the next karaoke night? Download this now cause: MP3 collectors are ungrateful pretentious assholes. Record collectors on the other hand are the sweetest and the most adorable persons in the world.

Wards - Don’t Make U.S. Shoot The Pershing II E.P. 7″

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

wards.jpgThe awesome Strange Reaction posted this sometime ago. But since the files over there sounds “remastered” and not as muddy and punk as on the original vinyl I’ll post it. If you’re more into the clean version you’ll just have to head over to SRs post of this: Wards at Strange Reaction.

Everything you could ask for is etched on to vinyl on this amazing record. Classic punk rock from start to finish. Not a single boring moment.

From Kill From The Heart: “Beano Parker, the future guitarist for the Wards, first heard the Sex Pistols’ Never Mind The Bollocks LP in 1977-1978. Hearing this album turned him on to a whole style of music that he had previously been totally unfamiliar with.“.

Rhythm Pigs - An American Activity E.P. 7″

Saturday, July 29th, 2006

rhythmpigs.jpgClassic release from another underrated and awesome original US HC band. Their Chocke On This LP and this their first 7inch blows shit like Youth Of Today out of the water.

Rhythm Pigs don’t sound like a clone. They sound like themself and that was what I liked so much about the early HC. Togheter with Capitol Of Punishment I saw Rhythm Pigs live in Copenhagen in 1987. 50 people in there and they rocked the house. From the raging HC in Baal to the hook laden Radio Silence you can’t go wrong with this.

Special Forces - World Domination LP 12″

Saturday, July 29th, 2006

specialforces.jpgHere’s one of the most underrated HC records ever. Up there with classics like Zero Boys - Vicious Circle, FU’s -Kill For Christ/My America, Jerry’s Kids - Is This My World, Scream - Still Screaming yeah you get the picture. This is some of the finest and most “typical” US HC you’ll ever hear. The guitar sound is THE sound of US HC. The cover has to be one of the ugliest ever made maybe that’s why it’s been forgotten. And yes it’s released in 1984. One year after the big HC boom. Their later stuff is awful though!

Bill Colins the guitarist is now a folk music artist. Check out the liner notes and the lyrics here. Listen to Gung Ho now and realise what you’ve missed. From Berkeley, California.

NRG - Kulturel forvaltning 7″

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

nrg.jpgRecorded in April 1983 but not released until 1984. This is a mandatory download for all! Two great tracks with one of the finest danish punk rock you’ll ever hear. Kulturel forvaltning is fast raw and cathy. Sort is slower but catchy as hell.

What I like most about NRG is Kim Ingemanns INCREDIBLE voice. Super melodic! Ahhh and I love the danish language. They released an LP in 1986 which I haven’t heard.

Declino - E.P. 7″

Sunday, April 9th, 2006

declino.jpgI’m always thinking about Goran Lind the singer from Swedens S.O.D. when I listen to old Italian Hardcore. Maybe cause he was the guy who sold the early stuff like: Wretched/Indigesti split, Peggio Punx etc etc. Here’s one of Italys finest. Intense, desperate and energetic. AND the drum sound! One word: WOW!

Death Piggy - War E.P. 7″

Wednesday, April 5th, 2006

death_piggy_cover.jpgRumours has it that the singer from “DP” went on to GWAR. Anyway this E.P have two great tracks and I’m pussled that not more people have been raving about this band since these tracks are great Hardcore. Maybe because their lyrics where too funny for the boring and serious HC audience. This record got lots of spinning in the 80’s. We love you fat man! Here’s some tasty info: ‘If we were going to see a show, what would we want to see?’ Well hell, we’d want to see barbarian mutants from another planet chopping people’s heads off.”
