powerchords_label_a.jpg powerchords_label_b.jpg

Here’s some new and excellent powerpop/punk. Unattached Strings is an awesome nearly too close to Buzzcocks melody punker that I can’t get enough of. The chorus could be stronger to acompanion the great verse but who am I to complain? Dream Girl is really bad in my opinion. Just too simple and plain. Where’s the hooks?

About their sucky name The Power Chords you can read this at their labels website:”The name “The Power-Chords” couldn’t be more, or less, ironic.

One more thing!!! Where’s the lyric sheet? It should be law to include a lyric sheet.

Retardo, fucked up drug promoting punks from Long Beach, CA here. A big dose of that good ‘ol fuck you attitude coupled with some of the best sloopy played tunes I’ve heard in a long time.

What I love most is HocDogs vocals that sounds like he couldn’t care less. Great! 500 copies with two different sleeves. Special edition of 25 with a stamped gun on the innersleeve. The guys where kind enough to send me a couple of stickers that fits nicely on a lighter. Too bad I’ve given up crack.

Cheap Thrills/Nervous Habits Split E.P. 7″

Sunday, September 3rd, 2006

cheaptthrills.jpg20 years after Xband(posted couple of days ago) from Tallahassee, Florida released their 7inch The Cheap Thrills from the very same town releases theirs togheter with Nervous Habits.

Nervous Habits has the best good looking sleeve part but it’s The Cheap Thrills that rocks. Their own Explosive Love is backed up with a cover of the PVC classic Sick Of You. Why they decided to go for a cover beats me since they’ve got plenty of great tracks that can be heard on their Myspace page. Snotty vocals and trashy production.

Seems like this page sort out the crap bands and the great ones are the ones who sends us stuff.

300 pressed and 100 on blue vinyl plus insert with a hilarious written story by the record boss Wang Chung:”You ever kill human being on accident, then stop eat him body for lunch? Me too.” etc. Know Crap sold out their copies but Underground Medicine have it or write to: gimmecheapthrills@yahoo.com.

Bob Burns & The Breakups - Hydrostatic Heart E.P. 7″

Monday, August 28th, 2006

bobburns.jpgSecond band out that sent us a super duper punk rock record. Hydrostatic Heart is as catchy as it gets combining a blistering beat with an infectious melody and great vocals. Brilliant! Losing My Head is right behind and Acid Reflex tops it off with a jerky beat which makes this record stand out from many bands around. Sure one of my current favourites along with germanys Dean Dirg.

Hey Bob Burnsters I need more! Bob Burns And The Breakups on the net.

Boys Club - This Is My Face E.P. 7″

Monday, August 21st, 2006

boysclub_thisismyface.jpgFirst band out here that sent us some 7inches. The wonderful Boys Club. Reminds of some old lost recording of one of those old Aussie bands The Victims or News. Sloppy played done the right way that adds that special touch. The touch of we don’t give a fuck! I absolutly love this record and so will you. A classic to come. If I have to pick one song it has to be the title track though every song rules.

EDITED on the 1st of September cause Steve of Boys Club wrote this to me:“One thing though, since the record is almost sold out, can you please remove the buying info from the post? We keep getting orders from people who see it on your site that send the money without checking our myspace first…”

Check out the Boys Club.

Dean Dirg/Bombenalarm - Split E.P. 7″

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

deandirg_bombenalarm.jpgI saw Henry Fiats Open Sore(Sweden) and Dean Dirg(Germany) yeasterday. Sadly I missed Kamikatze(Sweden). Never seen Henry Fiats before, my band was supposed to play with them 2 years ago but they had to cancel, and my expectations was high. They where good but sounded a bit unrehearsed.

The highlight was when Rolf Revolt from Missbrukarna went on stage, wearing a Negative Approach t-shirt, and sang “Du ar inte du”. Then Dean Dirg went on and man the way they look!! Imagen all the prejudice you have against germans with hockey hair and moustaches! Awesome. Totally punk. And as a bonus they rocked hard as hell. A sweet night.

Here’s their latest record. A split with the not so good Bombenalarm wich is boring d-beat stuff. Listen and then buy all their stuff. Head over to the Dean Dirg Homepage.

Sack-O’-Woes - Whiteout E.P. 7″

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

sackowoes_whitout.jpgI got an email the other day from Niels. Niels who? Niels from Gepopel of course. He spoke about the problems about fitting in: “our big problem seems to be we don’t fit in anywhere… The garage scene (which we feel the closest to) think we’re too HC, the HC scene think we’re too garage, the Ramonesy/pop/punk-scene we don’t fit in, etc. It’s a drag as me and our bass player Joost both started out in the early 80’s, when you had a load of totally different sounding bands working together (the Ex/ Nitwitz/ Trockener Kecks, etc. etc.),”.

I recognise that too well. It dosen’t fit into the KBD time table. But many bands here don’t. But in 20 years the new bands on here will sure be the victims of collectors greedy hands. Pick up this before you regret it cause it’s fantastic!!

Last track is a cover of a De Straks song from 1980. 500 copies and a super nice packaging. Check out Niels punk rock blog Eet U Smakelijk. Excellent writing and great posts! Favourite track: Doin’ Time. I want more Niels!
